The call

Moloco stays profitable and diversifying into retail media and CTV while AppLovin's scale and AI ad tools from Google and Meta press on its core mobile ad business.

Moloco helps companies buy ads on phone apps and retail websites using artificial intelligence, and it makes money doing it. It is somewhat hard to replace because it has built special relationships with ad exchanges and has access to real campaign data that big AI models do not have yet, but AppLovin, a bigger and publicly traded rival, does almost the same thing and has more money to spend. The one thing that could change everything: if AppLovin moves into retail store advertising and streaming video ads, it could directly compete with Moloco's growing business outside mobile apps.

Why
01
AI pressure: Google Performance Max and Meta Advantage+ AI ad automation. Frontier AI can't yet copy Moloco's first-party bidding data, but walled-garden AI ad tools could squeeze its open-inventory pitch. Could AI do the core job? Unlikely.
02
Bigger players: AppLovin. AppLovin's public, vertically integrated Axon engine competes directly for the same mobile app install ad budgets. Could a giant copy it? Probably.
03
What protects it. Proprietary first-party campaign data, deep exchange integrations, and a new stake in AppsFlyer's measurement rails outside Google/Meta.
What would change this call
AppLovin lands a tier-1 retail-media or CTV client such as Costco or Wayfair. Would show AppLovin invading the diversified lines Moloco is using to hedge against it.
Apple or Google rolls out new cross-app attribution restrictions in 2026. Would show a policy risk squeezing Moloco's core mobile-UA measurement moat.
Moloco's AppsFlyer equity investment closes or is blocked by regulators by end of 2026. Would confirm whether Moloco secures deeper measurement-infrastructure control or loses that leverage.
Key numbers
  • $200M+ revenue in 2022, up 5x since 2020 (2022)
  • Profitable for 12+ straight quarters (2023-06)
  • Led $1B AppsFlyer round at $2.7B valuation (2026-06-22)
Named risks
  • AppLovin's larger public scale and capital could erode Moloco's mobile UA share. Severity: high
  • Apple/Google attribution policy changes could disrupt core measurement business; WWDC 2026 gave no AdAttributionKit update. Severity: high
  • AppsFlyer investment remains subject to regulatory approval and could be blocked or delayed. Severity: medium
  • No primary capital raised since 2021 Series C, leaving future valuation and funding path uncertain. Severity: medium
  • Third-party revenue estimates beyond Moloco's own $200M+ (2022) figure vary wildly, complicating scale verification. Severity: low

Questions people ask
Is Moloco profitable in 2026?
Moloco has stated it was profitable for 12+ consecutive quarters as of mid-2023, and later company bios claim five straight years of profitability, per its own press release published 2024-10-02 referencing 2023-06 data.
Who is Moloco's biggest competitor?
AppLovin is Moloco's closest rival in mobile user-acquisition, a publicly traded, vertically integrated company running its own AXON machine-learning engine, described as a larger-scale, better-capitalized peer as of March 2026.
Could AI replace Moloco?
Moloco's entire product is an AI layer called CARA, comprising 30+ deep learning models that automate ad bidding and targeting, per its own site, so AI is Moloco's offering rather than a threat displacing it, though it doesn't control Apple/Google attribution rules.
Who owns Moloco?
Moloco is privately held and venture-backed with no parent company. Tiger Global led its $150M Series C in 2021 at a $1.5B valuation, and secondary sales in June 2023 implied a valuation above $2.0B.
Has Moloco raised new funding recently?
Moloco has not raised primary capital since its 2021 Series C. Instead, in June 2026 it led a $1B+ consortium with Google, Meta and Unity investing in AppsFlyer at a $2.7B valuation, buying roughly 48% of AppsFlyer, not raising for itself.
Is Moloco growing or shrinking its headcount?
Moloco's headcount is growing: Revelio Labs counted 838 employees worldwide as of December 2025, up 16.6% year over year, while Crustdata reported 961 employees as of July 2026, up 11.6% year over year.
