The call

NeueHealth survives on CMS contracts set to expire in 2026 while much larger rivals already run the same business at scale.

NeueHealth helps doctor groups manage patient care and get paid by insurance companies through a government program called ACO REACH. The problem is that much larger competitors like UnitedHealth and CVS already dominate this space at hundreds of times NeueHealth's size, and that main government program shuts down at the end of 2026 with no backup plan confirmed yet. Meanwhile, software that automates the paperwork and scheduling that NeueHealth does could replace much of what the company offers, and NeueHealth has not shown any special technology that would protect it from that threat. The one thing that matters: whether NeueHealth can move its doctor clients to a new government program (MSSP or LEAD) before 2026 ends without losing most of its revenue, which is something that has to happen in the next few years to keep the company alive.

Why
01
AI pressure: None apparent. AI tools for prior authorization, risk coding, and care scheduling can automate the core work NeueSolutions sells to providers. Could AI do the core job? Yes, likely.
02
Bigger players: UnitedHealth/Optum and CVS/Aetna. Optum and CVS Health already run value based primary care at vastly larger scale and can absorb providers NeueHealth loses. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. Existing CMS contracts and provider relationships give it a head start, but nothing stops Optum or CVS from taking the same providers.
What would change this call
Whether NeueSolutions announces a confirmed MSSP or LEAD migration with capitated lives before ACO REACH ends in 2026. Shows whether the core revenue line has a real successor or simply disappears.
Whether NeueHealth reports two consecutive quarters of revenue growth (not just EBITDA) under NEA ownership. Shows whether the business is actually growing again or just being cost-cut.
Further headcount reductions or divestitures reported in the 12 months after the October 2025 take-private close. Shows whether NEA is restructuring for a turnaround or shrinking the company further.
