The call

Noom now runs on resold GLP-1 drugs and health-plan contracts rather than its old coaching app, while drugmakers and AI chatbots both close in from opposite sides.

Noom is a health company that combines human coaching with prescription weight-loss drugs to help people lose weight. The problem is that the drugs themselves (made by companies like Eli Lilly and Novo Nordisk) now do most of the work, and those drugmakers are selling directly to customers instead of going through middlemen like Noom, which cuts into Noom's profits. At the same time, competitors like WeightWatches and Ro offer the same coaching-plus-drug package, and basic AI chatbots can now do the coaching part for almost nothing, so there is nothing that makes Noom special or hard to replace. The one thing that could change this would be if Noom proves it can keep customers longer and get better results than others, or if it gets bought by a much bigger company that can use it as one piece of a larger business.

Why
01
AI pressure: Generic AI chat coaches (ChatGPT-style bots). Noom already swapped human coaches for AI chat, so any chatbot maker can copy that same psychology script for free. Could AI do the core job? Yes, likely.
02
Bigger players: Eli Lilly (LillyDirect) and Novo Nordisk (Wegovy/Ozempic). Lilly and Novo now ship Zepbound and Wegovy straight to patients, cutting resellers like Noom out of the drug margin. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. Signed health-plan and employer contracts (Highmark, Collective Health) plus its own 46-state compounding pharmacy give it distribution rivals must rebuild from scratch.
What would change this call
LillyDirect or Novo expand direct-to-consumer Zepbound/Wegovy shipping into Noom's markets. Drugmakers cutting out resellers like Noom would compress its Rx margin, its main growth engine.
FDA tightens rules on compounded GLP-1s as branded supply normalizes in 2026. Would threaten the Tailor Made Compounding acquisition's revenue thesis.
Noom announces a third layoff round or a marked-down sale/IPO within 6 months. Would confirm the core business hasn't stabilized despite GLP-1 revenue growth.

Questions people ask
Is Noom profitable in 2026?
No audited financials exist since Noom is private. Revenue estimates conflict wildly, from $182M to over $1B depending on source, and Noom has cut staff twice in 2025 citing losses in its core weight loss business, suggesting the core app is not covering costs on its own.
Could AI replace Noom's coaching product?
Largely yes for the psychology layer. Noom's own site already advertises AI plus human coaching chat, and its coaching headcount has fallen from over 3,000 coaches historically to roughly 700 to 1,200 total employees by mid 2026, showing AI substitution already underway inside the company itself.
Who is Noom's biggest competitor?
WeightWatchers is the closest incumbent threat, with a 55 plus year brand, its own GLP-1 Clinic, and generally cheaper monthly pricing as of January 2026. Ro, Found, and Calibrate also offer near identical coaching plus GLP-1 prescription bundles that compete directly with Noom Med.
Who owns Noom?
Noom is privately held and venture backed, not publicly traded. Its May 2021 Series F was led by Silver Lake with Oak HC/FT, Novo Holdings, Temasek, Sequoia Capital, RRE, and Samsung Ventures, reportedly valuing the company near $3.7B at that time.
Does Noom sell GLP-1 weight loss drugs?
Yes. Noom Med offers prescription access to branded drugs like Wegovy and Zepbound plus compounded semaglutide, and disclosed in February 2025 that its GLP-1 and generic pill programs reached about a $100M revenue run-rate within four months of a September 2024 launch, per Noom's own disclosure.
Is Noom planning an IPO in 2026?
No confirmed filing exists. Noom explored an IPO around a 10B valuation in 2022 per Bloomberg reporting, but shelved it amid layoffs. As of July 20, 2026, Noom is absent from active IPO pipeline trackers, meaning any listing would be an unexpected event, not a scheduled one.
