Olam Group
Singapore agri-trader supplying food ingredients and raw commodities to 20,000+ customers worldwide.
Olam is splitting into pieces, with Olam Agri sold to SALIC and Mindsprint sold to Wipro, leaving ofi's ingredient business as the piece investors are left betting on.
Olam Group buys, processes, and sells agricultural products like cocoa, coffee, and grains to food makers worldwide. It is hard to replace because it has relationships with farmers across 60+ countries and owns processing facilities, but four giant competitors (Cargill, ADM, Bunge, Louis Dreyfus) control most of the global grain market and have been around much longer. The company is selling off major pieces to focus on one business called ofi, which will soon become its own public company, and that spinoff event over the next few years will determine whether the investment works out or fails. Management changes and paused shareholder payments show this is a risky transition, not a stable business.
Olam resumes paying dividends after the FY2025 H2 pause. Signals reorganization cash pressure has eased and confidence in ofi's standalone earnings.
ofi's Ingredients & Solutions share of adjusted EBIT for FY2026 reported vs the 70% FY2025 level. Shows whether the higher-margin ingredients mix is still growing or stalling.
- FY2025 revenue S$67.0B, PATMI up 414% to S$444.1M
- ofi revenue S$28.5B, EBIT S$1.07B roughly flat
- Olam Agri sale to SALIC valued at US$4.0B for 100% equity
- ofi IPO timing and valuation remain unconfirmed as of July 2026, key swing factor for equity value.
- No final FY2025 dividend declared, creating shareholder dissatisfaction and share-price volatility.
- Full leadership turnover at April 2026 AGM (Chairman, CEO, CFO) introduces execution risk during reorganisation.
- Trade policy and tariff volatility, including a US Supreme Court tariff ruling, flagged by management as a 2026 headwind.
- Conflicting third-party headcount estimates (39,780 vs legacy 82,000+) suggest unclear post-divestment workforce scope.
| Rival | Direction | Evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Cargill | contesting | Part of ABCD group holding an estimated 70-90% of global grain trade, per academic review |
| Archer Daniels Midland (ADM) | contesting | Comparable-scale origination network; no acute share loss reported for Olam as of 2026 |
| Bunge Global | contesting | ~23,000 employees, competes directly in oilseed processing and grain trading |
| Louis Dreyfus Company | contesting | US$120B+ sales, 22,000+ employees; abandoned 2011 merger talks with Olam |
| SALIC | losing to | SALIC took 81.81% control of Olam Agri after Tranche 1 close on 27 Apr 2026 |
- Is Olam Group profitable in 2026?
- Yes. Olam Group reported FY2025 consolidated revenue of S$67.0 billion, up 19.3% year on year, and PATMI of S$444.1 million, up 414% year on year, for the year ended 31 December 2025, though no final dividend was declared.
- Who owns Olam Group?
- Temasek Holdings is the majority owner, holding 52.06% of Olam Group (1,963,148,732 shares) as of 27 March 2026. Mitsubishi Corporation holds 14.71% and the founding Kewalram Chanrai Group holds 7.03%, per May 2026 filings.
- Is Olam Agri still part of Olam Group?
- No longer majority owned. Tranche 1 of the sale to Saudi Agricultural and Livestock Investment Company closed 27 April 2026 for about US$1.88 billion, giving SALIC 81.81% and leaving Olam Group an 18.19% associate stake with a put option exercisable in April 2029.
- Could AI replace Olam Group's business?
- Unlikely for its core. Olam's value comes from physical origination infrastructure, farmer networks and logistics across 60+ countries, functions AI cannot replicate. It already sold its digital back-office arm, Mindsprint, to Wipro for US$386 million in H1 2026, offloading the more AI-exposed piece.
- Is ofi going public?
- An IPO is planned but not completed. As of July 2026, ofi's dual listing on the London Stock Exchange with a secondary Singapore listing remains a stated intention; ofi has already secured about US$3.3 billion in standalone financing facilities meant to transfer to it post-IPO.
- Is Olam Group a safe company to join right now?
- It is mid-restructuring: Chairman Lim Ah Doo and co-founder CEO Sunny Verghese both stepped down at the 27 April 2026 AGM, a new CFO was appointed, and the FY2025 dividend was paused, signalling execution risk during the ofi carve-out and Olam Agri divestment.
