The call

Onna now lives inside Reveal as a shrinking product line, its connector edge intact for now but squeezed from above by Microsoft and from below by AI-driven review tools.

Onna helps lawyers pull messages from Slack, Teams, and other chat apps for legal cases. It was bought by Reveal Data in 2024 and is now just one small team inside a larger company. The problem is that Microsoft, Google, and other tech giants are adding these same connection features directly into their own products, so Onna's main advantage is disappearing. The bigger threat is that AI tools are now doing most of the actual legal review work (the part that used to cost the most money), and Onna does not have that AI piece, only the connection piece. If Microsoft Purview expands to pull data from Slack and Google Workspace in one unified legal pipeline, Onna's reason to exist shrinks to almost nothing.

Why
01
AI pressure: Microsoft Purview eDiscovery and OpenAI/Google enterprise data connectors. Microsoft already collects Microsoft 365 data natively; if it adds Slack and Google in one workflow, Onna's connector pitch disappears. Could AI do the core job? Yes, likely.
02
Bigger players: Microsoft Purview eDiscovery. Microsoft ships eDiscovery data collection as a built-in feature, threatening to make Onna's core product a free add-on. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. Onna's 30+ prebuilt connectors work today across Slack, Google, and dozens of other apps, which took years to build and Microsoft hasn't matched yet.
What would change this call
Microsoft Purview eDiscovery adds unified Slack plus Google Workspace collection alongside M365. Would directly replicate Onna's connector-breadth wedge inside a platform customers already own.
Reveal Data parent headcount trend over next two reported quarters (Revelio, Crustdata). Continued decline would signal cost-cutting that could shrink or fold in the Onna product line.
Any announced sale of Reveal Data to Relativity, Consilio, or another eDiscovery consolidator. Would confirm a PE exit event and reprice or eliminate Onna line equity.
Key numbers
  • Onna has about 36 employees (2026)
  • Parent Reveal down 18% headcount since 2023 (Dec 2025)
  • Onna raised roughly $54M total before acquisition (2020)
Named risks
  • Onna brand absorption into Reveal, losing independent identity within 6-12 months. Severity: medium
  • Parent Reveal headcount decline of up to 18.2% since 2023 signals cost-cutting pressure on Onna line. Severity: high
  • Microsoft Purview extending cross-platform (Slack, Google) collection could collapse Onna's connector wedge. Severity: high
  • Downstream GenAI review automation (aji) cannibalizes the larger review-spend layer Onna does not compete in. Severity: medium
  • Conflicting third-party revenue and headcount estimates make Onna/Reveal financial health hard to verify. Severity: low

Questions people ask
Is Onna still an independent company?
No. Onna was acquired by Reveal Data Corp on May 7, 2024 for an undisclosed sum and now operates as a product line called 'Onna, a Reveal platform' rather than a standalone business, per Reveal's official acquisition announcement.
Who owns Onna now?
Onna is owned by Reveal Data Corp, which itself is backed by private equity firm K1 Investment Management along with Medina Capital, Green Park & Golf Ventures, and In-Q-Tel. The acquisition closed May 7, 2024, ending Onna's run as an independently funded startup.
Is Onna profitable?
Profitability is not disclosed. Onna-specific revenue has not been reported separately since the May 2024 Reveal acquisition; parent Reveal's 2024 revenue was estimated at $66.7M by Latka, a vendor-adjacent estimate, not an audited figure.
Could AI replace Onna's core product?
Onna's connector/collection layer faces commoditization from Microsoft Purview (already native across Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, Exchange) and OpenAI/Google building native enterprise connectors, while GenAI review engines like Reveal's own 'aji' target the ~73% of eDiscovery spend in document review, per Reveal's own 2025-2026 product materials.
Who are Onna's biggest competitors?
Crustdata lists Onna's direct competitors as Relativity, Casepoint, Nuix, and Hanzo, with Relativity widely regarded as the dominant enterprise eDiscovery platform that Onna's connector breadth has not displaced as of 2026.
Did Onna raise venture funding before being acquired?
Yes. Onna raised a $5M seed round, an $11M Series A led by Dawn Capital, and a $27M Series B in June 2020 led by Atomico with Slack Fund participating, totaling roughly $54M disclosed before its May 2024 acquisition by Reveal Data Corp.
