The call

Orca has survived five years without an exploit and just opened a new RWA lane with Streamex, but Jupiter still decides where most trades actually go.

Orca lets people trade cryptocurrency tokens on the Solana blockchain. It has processed over $500 billion in trades and has never been hacked, but its main product works the same way as two rival platforms called Raydium and Meteora, so there is nothing special about it. The real problem is that Jupiter, a bigger platform that sits on top of Orca and others, controls where 80 to 95 percent of all trades go and treats Orca like just another replaceable option. Orca recently started testing a new idea called Permissioned Pools to handle real-world assets like stocks or bonds, but it is brand new, only two months old, and other platforms could easily copy it. What matters now is whether Orca can sign up more real-world asset issuers with actual trading volume by the end of 2026, because if Raydium or Jupiter build their own version first, Orca's new advantage disappears.

Why
01
AI pressure: None apparent. AI agents could route trades via Jupiter without ever touching Orca's interface, but no AI product directly replaces the pools themselves. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: Jupiter (aggregator routing 80-95% of Solana DEX flow). Jupiter sits above Orca and treats it as one interchangeable liquidity pool among many, capturing the user relationship and most of the fee value. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. Five years with zero exploits and a two-month head start on compliance-gated RWA pools with Streamex's gold token.
What would change this call
Whether Permissioned Pools sign a second or third RWA issuer beyond Streamex by end of 2026. Shows if the RWA compliance moat is real or just a one-off head start.
Whether Raydium or Meteora launch a competing permissioned or compliance-gated pool product. Shows if Orca's only differentiated feature gets commoditized.
Whether Orca's 24h volume share among Solana DEXs stays above 20 percent versus Raydium and Meteora. Shows if Orca is losing routed order flow to rival AMMs beneath Jupiter.
Key numbers
  • $500B+ cumulative trading volume since 2021 (2026-07-20)
  • ~$9-10M daily fee volume, ~$4,800 daily revenue (2026-07-20)
  • 101 employees, down 1% year over year (2026-06-25)
Named risks
  • Aggregators like Jupiter increasingly commoditize Orca as backend liquidity, capturing user relationship and value. Severity: high
  • Core AMM/CLMM product feature parity with Raydium and Meteora erodes differentiation. Severity: medium
  • RWA Permissioned Pools moat rests on single issuer (Streamex) and is only two months old as of May 2026. Severity: medium
  • Regulatory clampdown on Solana RWA tokenization could undermine the compliance-layer strategy. Severity: medium
  • ORCA token has thin market cap (~$72-94M) with daily swings over 60%, signaling volatility risk. Severity: low

Questions people ask
Is Orca profitable and how big is its trading volume?
Orca has processed over $500B in cumulative trading volume since 2021 (vendor-claimed, orca.so). As of July 20, 2026, it shows roughly $9-10M in 24h protocol fee volume and about $4,800 in daily protocol revenue after LP distribution, per CoinGecko.
Could AI replace Orca's DEX?
AI-driven routing already competes with Orca: Jupiter's Metis aggregator algorithmically splits ~80-95% of Solana swap flow across Orca, Raydium, and Meteora (as of May 26, 2026), reducing Orca to interchangeable liquidity rather than a user-facing destination.
Who is Orca's biggest competitor?
Jupiter, the dominant Solana swap aggregator routing 80-95% of flow, sits above Orca and treats it as commodity liquidity. Raydium and Meteora also match Orca's core concentrated-liquidity (CLMM) features, per Coinbureau's June 19, 2026 Solana DEX rankings.
Is Orca safe to trade on or work at?
Orca has had zero protocol-level exploits and has run a live $500K Immunefi bug bounty since 2022, per a July 11, 2026 Coinbureau review. Headcount stands at roughly 101 as of June 25, 2026 (Crustdata), roughly flat since 2023.
Who owns Orca and is it a public company?
Orca is a private, DAO-governed Solana protocol, not a public company. It raised an $18M Series A in September 2021 led by Polychain Capital, Placeholder, and Three Arrows Capital, with no further institutional rounds documented since.
What is Orca's new RWA product with Streamex?
On May 27, 2026, Orca launched Permissioned Pools, a compliance-gated liquidity layer with on-chain KYC enforcement, with Nasdaq-listed Streamex (STEX) as the inaugural issuer for its gold-backed GLDY token, per CoinDesk.
