The call

OVHcloud is profitable and growing on sovereign-cloud demand, but hyperscalers are now selling their own 'sovereign' products into the same buyers.

OVHcloud runs data centers and cloud services in Europe, renting computing power to businesses and governments. The company has a real advantage: European law lets it serve EU governments and banks that cannot use American cloud companies like AWS or Microsoft Azure due to data rules, and this protected business is growing fast. However, most of OVHcloud's revenue comes from basic hosting services that anyone can copy, and cheaper rivals like Hetzner and even AWS itself are now offering 'European' versions of their services that might someday be allowed to compete for the government work too. The biggest question is whether European regulators will eventually decide that these American companies' European services are safe enough for sensitive government work, which would wipe out OVHcloud's main advantage.

Why
01
AI pressure: None apparent. AI workloads are feeding OVHcloud's Public Cloud growth (+22% in Q3 FY26), not displacing it; no frontier AI product competes with hosting. Could AI do the core job? Unlikely.
02
Bigger players: AWS European Sovereign Cloud and Azure EU Data Boundary. Both hyperscalers now sell EU-based 'sovereign' variants that pitch the same regulators and buyers OVHcloud targets with SecNumCloud. Could a giant copy it? No, they are blocked.
03
What protects it. SecNumCloud certification and non-US ownership let OVHcloud legally serve EU regulated workloads that AWS, Azure and Google cannot yet touch.
What would change this call
EU regulators formally accept AWS European Sovereign Cloud or Azure EU Data Boundary as CLOUD Act equivalent for procurement. Would show OVHcloud's regulatory moat eroding and hyperscalers gaining sovereign-workload customers.
OVHcloud FY2026 guidance is cut again below the 5-7% organic growth range at the October 2026 earnings report. Would confirm deeper customer or revenue loss beyond current deceleration.
A named sovereign or public-sector customer publicly switches from OVHcloud to a hyperscaler sovereign product after the September 2026 price increases. Would be direct evidence of customer defection tied to pricing and hyperscaler competition.
Key numbers
  • FY2025 revenue crossed €1,084.6M, up 9.3% (2025-08-31)
  • SecNumCloud ARR hit €24M, up 63% YoY (2025-08-31)
  • Net debt near €1.1B after buybacks (2025-10-21)
Named risks
  • FY2026 growth guidance cut to 5-7% signals commodity hosting deceleration despite record margins. Severity: high
  • Hyperscalers shipping 'sovereign cloud' variants could erode OVHcloud's core regulatory moat if EU accepts them as CLOUD Act equivalent. Severity: high
  • Net debt rose to ~€1.1B largely from share buybacks, against a CEO-set 3x EBITDA leverage ceiling. Severity: medium
  • Planned September 2026 price hikes to offset up to 9x component cost inflation could pressure customer retention. Severity: medium
  • 180-day lock-up on Miroslaw Klaba's ~42.5% remaining stake expiring around mid-2026 creates share-sale overhang. Severity: low

Questions people ask
Is OVHcloud profitable?
Yes. OVHcloud's FY2025 (ended August 31, 2025) revenue hit €1,084.6M with adjusted EBITDA margin above 40%, per company results published 2025-10-21. H1 FY2026 margin rose further to a record 40.9%, reported 2026-04-09, with growth partly credited to internal AI adoption.
Who is OVHcloud's biggest competitor?
On price, Germany's Hetzner undercuts OVHcloud's commodity hosting; on developer experience, France's Scaleway competes closely. At the top, AWS (~33% EU share), Azure (~25%) and Google Cloud (~10%) now ship their own 'sovereign cloud' EU variants contesting OVHcloud's regulatory pitch, per a 2025-02-25 industry estimate.
Could AI replace OVHcloud?
No, AI is a tailwind, not a threat: OVHcloud's Q3 FY2026 (reported 2026-06-25) showed Public Cloud revenue up 22.2% like-for-like on AI-driven demand, and it was named the sole European 'Challenger' in Gartner's Magic Quadrant for Cloud AI Infrastructure on 2026-07-09.
Who owns OVHcloud?
The Klaba family controls OVHcloud, the company founded by Octave Klaba in 1999. A €350M buyback announced 2024-10-24 raised the family's stake from 68% toward as much as 81%. Octave Klaba was reappointed Chairman and CEO on 2025-10-21, succeeding Benjamin Revcolevschi.
Is OVHcloud growing fast enough to justify its valuation?
Growth decelerated: FY2026 guidance was cut to 5-7% organic growth on 2025-10-21, down from ~10% previously, triggering an 18% stock drop. But Q3 FY2026 (2026-06-25) showed 9.6% total growth and 22.2% Public Cloud growth, suggesting a possible reacceleration.
