The call

Perfios sits deep inside Indian bank workflows and is turning AI into a feature of its own products rather than losing ground to it, for now.

Perfios builds software that banks use to check if borrowers can repay loans, spot fraud, and collect payments. It does this by reading bank statements, tax forms, and other financial documents, then feeding that data into decision-making tools that banks have built into their daily work. The company is hard to replace because it has spent nearly two decades building close relationships with over 1,000 banks and financial institutions across India, and it knows all the rules that regulators require. Generic AI tools like ChatGPT can read documents cheaply now, which threatens the simple part of what Perfios does (turning paper into data), but the company is trying to move upward into the harder, more valuable work: helping banks actually decide who gets a loan and following all the compliance rules. The one thing that could change the picture is if generic AI tools get so good and so cheap that banks stop needing Perfios's integrated system altogether, or if the company stumbles in merging three companies it bought in 2025.

Why
01
AI pressure: Generic LLMs and document-parsing AI tools. AI is commoditizing bank-statement and document extraction, the low end of Perfios's stack, pushing it to sell decisioning workflows instead. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: Global data aggregators like Plaid and Yodlee/Envestnet, plus credit bureaus CIBIL and Experian. These players have scale and capital but lack Perfios's depth of integration inside Indian bank lending and collections systems. Could a giant copy it? Probably.
03
What protects it. Direct API integrations inside 1,000+ Indian financial institutions and a regulatory compliance record that is slow for outsiders to replicate.
What would change this call
Perfios files IPO DRHP with revenue concentration and retention data disclosed. Would reveal whether customer base is broad or dependent on a few large banks.
A marquee Indian bank adopts a rival underwriting AI over Perfios CAM AI. Would show frontier AI displacing Perfios in core decisioning workflows.
Signzy, FinBox, or HyperVerge announce wins of 2-3 major Indian bank accounts. Would indicate peers are taking share from Perfios in BFSI integrations.

Named risks
  • Generic LLMs commoditizing low-end document extraction and bank-statement parsing. Severity: medium
  • Dual-leadership structure (Group CEO Chugh plus core CEO Goswami since March 2026) could cause strategic paralysis. Severity: medium
  • Integration risk across three 2025 acquisitions (Clari5, CreditNirvana, IHX) not yet proven at scale. Severity: medium
  • Repeated IPO signaling since 2023 without an actual filing as of 2026 raises execution-timing uncertainty. Severity: low
  • Potential RBI restructuring of account-aggregator licensing or AI-governance rules could disrupt operations. Severity: medium

Questions people ask
Is Perfios profitable in 2026?
Yes. Perfios posted its third consecutive profitable year in FY25 (ended March 2025), with net profit of ₹104.3 Cr, up 46% YoY, on operating revenue of ₹669.5 Cr, up 20% YoY, per RoC filings reported by Inc42 on 2026-03-24.
Could AI replace Perfios?
Unlikely soon. Generic LLMs are commoditizing low-end document parsing, but Perfios is absorbing GenAI into its own stack via CAM AI (Aug 2025) and a Cognitive Finance OS (Dec 2025), while retaining lock-in through integrations with 1,000+ regulated financial institutions and RBI compliance positioning.
Who owns Perfios?
Perfios is privately held and VC/PE-backed. Key investors include Bessemer Venture Partners (2017), Warburg Pincus (2019, 2022), Kedaara Capital ($229M Series D, 2023), and Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan ($80M, March 2024), which pushed valuation to roughly $1B.
Is Perfios planning an IPO?
Perfios has signaled IPO intent since 2023, targeting a roughly $2B valuation and up to $500M raise. As of mid-2025 it was described as 'IPO-ready,' and in March 2026 it added Group CEO Nitin Chugh, but no DRHP or listing had occurred as of this brief.
Who is Perfios's biggest competitor?
In India, closest peers are Signzy, HyperVerge and FinBox in KYC/credit decisioning; Perfios already absorbed rival Karza Technologies via acquisition in 2022. Globally, Plaid, Yodlee/Envestnet and Ocrolus operate in adjacent data-aggregation space but face India-specific regulatory friction.
Who runs Perfios now?
As of March 2026, Perfios has dual leadership: Nitin Chugh, a former SBI/HDFC/Ujjivan executive, joined as Group MD and CEO overseeing the wider group (Perfios, Clari5, CreditNirvana, IHX), while co-founder Sabyasachi Goswami continues to lead the core Perfios business.
