The call

Pintu sits behind Tokocrypto and Indodax in a licensed market it cannot leave, four years without new funding, and no public word on whether that silence means profit or pressure.

Pintu lets Indonesians buy and sell cryptocurrencies through a government-regulated platform that requires a banking license locals cannot easily obtain, making it legally hard for new competitors to enter. However, Pintu is not the market leader: Binance acquired the larger rival Tokocrypto in late 2022, and Indodax was already established first. The company has not raised money or announced results in four years, leaving investors guessing whether it is quietly profitable or running out of cash. The big question is whether Pintu can launch a successful business-to-business platform for corporate clients to trade and store crypto, which could replace the feast-or-famine income from retail trading fees that rise and fall with crypto price swings.

Why
01
AI pressure: None apparent. AI feeds Pintu more than it eats it, AI-token speculation helped drive its reported trading volume surge. Could AI do the core job? Unlikely.
02
Bigger players: Binance-backed Tokocrypto. Tokocrypto led 2023 CoinGecko volume rankings in Indonesia while Pintu sits #3-4, same licensed pool, bigger backer. Could a giant copy it? Probably.
03
What protects it. OJK and CFX licensing plus IDR banking rails that block foreign apps but not domestic rivals like Tokocrypto or Indodax.

Pintu Institutional names actual corporate custody or trading clients within 12 months. Tests whether B2B diversification is real or just a press release.

Questions people ask
Is Pintu profitable in 2026?
Unknown. Pintu has disclosed no revenue or profitability figures and has raised no new funding since its $113M Series B in June 2022, a four-year gap that leaves it unclear whether the Indonesian crypto app is self-sustaining or capital-constrained as of July 2026.
Who owns Pintu?
Pintu (PT Pintu Kemana Saja) is a privately held, venture-backed startup founded by Jeth Soetoyo in April 2020. Investors include Pantera Capital, Lightspeed Venture Partners, Coinbase Ventures, and Intudo Ventures, who together backed rounds totaling roughly $154 to 156 million through June 2022.
Could AI replace Pintu?
Unlikely for its core function. Pintu's moat is its OJK and CFX regulatory license plus Indonesian bank/e-wallet rails for IDR crypto trading, which AI cannot replicate. Pintu does use AI for market-outlook editorial content on its news portal as of January 2026.
Who is Pintu's biggest competitor?
Tokocrypto, acquired by Binance in December 2022, and Indodax, Indonesia's oldest exchange, held roughly 43% and 42% of Indonesian crypto trading volume respectively in a 2023 CoinGecko ranking, while Pintu did not appear in that top-three list.
Does Pintu rank in Indonesia's top 3 crypto exchanges?
Pintu's CEO claimed top-three status in 2022, but a 2023 CoinGecko volume analysis ranked Tokocrypto at 43% and Indodax at 42% as the top two, with Upbit Indonesia at 15%; Pintu was not included in that independent ranking.
What is Pintu Institutional?
Pintu Institutional is a B2B custody and trading platform launched around June 24, 2026, offering regulated custody via PT Kustodian Koin Indonesia, API trading, and compliance support for corporate clients, though no named institutional clients have been disclosed yet.
