The call

The parent entity is state-protected and will not disappear, but its real estate arm is bleeding profit and its defense arm sits under US sanctions.

Poly Group is a government-owned Chinese company with three separate businesses: weapons trading (blocked by US sanctions), real estate development (losing huge amounts of money), and art auctions (doing okay but cut off from the world). It is almost impossible to replace because it is backed by the Chinese government and will not go away, but you cannot easily buy or sell its stock right now because the real estate side is in crisis and the weapons trading side is banned by America. The main thing to watch is whether the company can stop losing money in 2026 or if the losses get even worse.

Why
01
AI pressure: None apparent. AI does not feature in this company's business; its risks are sanctions and a property crash, not automation. Could AI do the core job? Unlikely.
02
Bigger players: None apparent. No rival company threatens Poly Group; the danger is US sanctions enforcement and China's property downturn, not competitors. Could a giant copy it? No, they are blocked.
03
What protects it. Wholly state owned central SOE under SASAC, so the parent's survival is effectively guaranteed by Beijing regardless of unit performance.

Questions people ask
Is Poly Group profitable in 2026?
Poly Group's parent is not separately reported, but its listed real estate arm Poly Developments (600048.SS) saw net profit collapse to CNY 1.0-1.04 billion in 2025 from CNY 5.0 billion in 2024, a roughly 79% decline, despite CNY 308 billion in revenue, per its April 2026 annual results.
Who owns Poly Group?
China Poly Group Corporation is a wholly state-owned central SOE, one of roughly 95-102 enterprises supervised directly by SASAC under the PRC State Council. It is unlisted; its subsidiary Poly Developments trades on the Shanghai exchange as 600048.SS.
Is Poly Technologies under US sanctions?
Yes. Poly Technologies was sanctioned by US Treasury OFAC in June 2024 for enabling trade of sensitive military tech to sanctioned Russian defense firms, following earlier US sanctions in 2013 and January 2022/2023 for missile proliferation activity.
Who is Poly Developments' biggest competitor?
Poly Developments led China in contracted sales for a third straight year in 2025 (CNY 253 billion, down 21.67% y/y), but reporting from October 2025 notes its commercial operating income is far smaller than rival China Resources Land's.
Could AI replace Poly Group's core businesses?
Unlikely for its core moats. Poly Technologies' arms-export license is a state-granted monopoly, and Poly Developments' land-bank and financing privileges are central-SOE credit advantages, neither replicable by AI; only back-office and marketing functions at these units are exposed.
Is Poly Developments in financial trouble?
Yes. It posted its first-ever quarterly net loss of CNY -782 million in Q3 2025 despite a 30.65% y/y revenue jump that quarter, and land acquisitions fell 60% y/y, per 36kr reporting from October 2025.
