Progmat
Japanese platform for tokenized securities and stablecoins, spun out of Mitsubishi UFJ Trust.
Progmat runs most of Japan's live tokenized-asset infrastructure today, with its future scale tied to whether its own bank owners keep routing their stablecoin and bond plans through it.
Progmat runs a shared computer system that Japan's three biggest banks use to move money and settle trades, backed by the Japanese government as critical infrastructure. It is hard to copy because the government officially approved it, the three big banks jointly own it so none can outcompete the others on it, and 452 billion yen in real regulated money already flows through it daily. But the company has not made clear how it will make real money from two big bets: a new digital cash coin the banks might launch together, and a plan to trade government bonds as digital tokens. The entire growth story depends on whether the banks actually release their joint stablecoin on Progmat by spring 2027. If that deal slips more than a year or moves to a different platform instead, the government endorsement story becomes only a story, and the business case collapses.
BOOSTRY's FY2026 issuance total compared to Progmat's ¥452B managed-asset figure. Indicates whether Progmat's market-share lead in tokenized assets is narrowing.
Whether the tokenized JGB working-group report due October 2026 leads to commercialization by end of 2026. Tests whether Progmat converts regulatory pilots into revenue-generating infrastructure.
- Manages over ¥452B in tokenized assets
- 53.4% of Japan public ST deals, 64.6% of value
- Japan ST market hit ¥165B in FY2025
- Joint megabank stablecoin could slip past March 2027 target or route to a rival platform.
- No disclosed revenue or profit; monetization model remains opaque despite large managed-asset scale.
- Newly completed Corda-to-Avalanche migration (July 2026) introduces technical/security risk at scale of regulated live assets.
- Megabank shareholders are simultaneously owners and potential defectors to alternative infrastructure.
- Tokenized JGB working group report (due Oct 2026) may not lead to commercialization by year-end 2026.

- Is Progmat profitable?
- No revenue or profit figures are publicly disclosed. Progmat is privately held, spun out of Mitsubishi UFJ Trust and Banking on October 2, 2023, and closed a Pre-Series A round in April 2025 rather than reporting standard financials.
- Who owns Progmat?
- As of April 2025, MUFG's trust bank MUTB holds 42% (diluted from 49%), with NTT Data, Mizuho Trust, Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Bank, SMBC and new Pre-Series A investors holding smaller stakes, per Ledger Insights, April 11, 2025.
- Could AI replace Progmat?
- Unlikely soon. Progmat's moat is an FSA-linked license and trust/custody role for regulated security tokens and stablecoins in Japan, not an advisory service; AI cannot hold its regulatory license or serve as system of record, per company and FSA materials from 2025 to 2026.
- Who is Progmat's biggest competitor?
- BOOSTRY, backed by Nomura, JPX, SBI and NRI, is Progmat's main rival security-token platform; it completed Japan's first DCJPY-based securities settlement PoC in March 2025, per Nomura's release.
- How much of Japan's security token market does Progmat control?
- The Block reported Progmat handled 53.4% of Japan's public security-token deals by count and 64.6% by issuance value as of July 13, 2026, based on independent market data.
- Will the megabank joint stablecoin actually launch on Progmat?
- As of December 17, 2025, Japan's FSA approved a Payment Innovation Project pilot with MUFG, SMBC, Mizuho and Progmat targeting a joint yen stablecoin launch by fiscal 2026 or March 2027, but it remains in pilot phase, not shipped revenue.
