Quantum Systems
German maker of military drones and autonomy software for NATO forces.
Quantum Systems is growing fast on real contracts and battlefield data, but its US access and European lead both depend on policy and rivals like Helsing staying where they are.
Quantum Systems makes military drones for the German military and European allies, and has grown extremely fast by winning battles in Ukraine and getting special US approval to sell there. The company is hard to copy right now because it is the only non-American company allowed to sell certain types of drones to the US military, and big companies like Airbus already work with it, but a new US rule from July 2026 could force the Pentagon to only buy American drones in the future, which would shut Quantum out of its biggest market even with that special approval. The one thing that could change everything is whether the US rule gets stricter or looser over the next year or two, or whether a rival called Helsing grows large enough to become a real threat in Europe.
US 'Drone Dominance Supply Chain Framework' is revised toward on-shore-only manufacturing rules. Would show Quantum's Blue UAS access weakening despite its Moorpark, CA facility.
Helsing's reported ~$18B funding round closes and is followed by a hardware acquisition. Would show Helsing converting capital into direct hardware competition with Quantum.
- $1.2B Series D at $8B valuation
- $330M 2025 revenue, up 161% YoY
- 19,000+ combat missions flown in Ukraine
- US Drone Dominance framework (July 2026) could shift to on-shore-only, nullifying Blue UAS advantage.
- Co-CEO Florian Seibel simultaneously runs rival armed-drone venture Stark Defence.
- Profitability claim is company-stated, not independently audited.
- First-time pivot into armed/lethal systems could trigger investor or regulatory backlash.
- Helsing's larger pending funding round could outpace Quantum in the European defense capital race.
| Rival | Direction | Evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Helsing | gaining on | Seeking ~$18B valuation round as of mid-2026, more than double Quantum's $8B |
| Stark Defence | contesting | Founded by Quantum co-CEO Florian Seibel; competes for same armed-drone contracts, July 2026 |
| Anduril, AeroVironment, Shield AI, Skydio | contesting | Only other Blue UAS approved vendors alongside Quantum as of Aug 2025, barred from EU sovereign deals |
| Tekever | contesting | Portuguese surveillance-drone unicorn building large Swindon UK factory, reported mid-2026 |
- Is Quantum Systems profitable in 2026?
- Quantum Systems' CFO Jonas Jarosch described the company on July 2, 2026 as achieving 'triple-digit growth, double-digit profitability,' alongside estimated 2025 revenue of ~$330M, up 161% year over year. This is a company statement, not independently audited financials.
- What is Quantum Systems worth?
- Quantum Systems closed a $1.2B Series D on July 2, 2026, co-led by Blackstone, Noteus, Airbus, and Advent, valuing the German drone maker at roughly $8B, more than double its ~$3.5B valuation from just seven months earlier in November 2025.
- Who is Quantum Systems' biggest competitor?
- Helsing, a German AI defense-software unicorn, is Quantum Systems' closest peer, reportedly seeking a round at roughly $18B valuation as of mid-2026, more than double Quantum's ~$8B, in a race to become Europe's leading defense drone prime.
- Could AI replace Quantum Systems?
- No. Quantum Systems builds AI into its own hardware via Vector AI and the MOSAIC UXS platform launched June 2025; its moat rests on 19,000+ combat-proven missions in Ukraine, Blue UAS certification, and physical manufacturing, none of which a frontier AI model can replicate.
- Does Quantum Systems sell drones to the US military?
- Yes. Quantum Systems is the only non-US company on the Blue UAS approved list as of August 2025, and won a $15.3M US Army contract for Vector AI under Company-Level sUAS Directed Requirement 2 in April 2026, its first major Pentagon order.
- Is it risky to join Quantum Systems right now?
- Headcount grew from 599 employees in 2024 to 839 by December 2025, a 171% two-year increase, and funding hit $8B valuation in July 2026, but co-CEO Florian Seibel also runs Stark Defence, a competing armed-drone venture, raising governance concerns.
