The call

VivaVideo keeps its old user base but leans on a rented Google AI model while CapCut and other rivals pull ahead in the same category.

QuVideo makes VivaVideo, a mobile app that lets people edit and create videos, now powered by Google's Veo 3 AI tool for making avatars. The main problem is that CapCut (owned by ByteDance) already has more users and the same features, and there is nothing stopping Google, CapCut, or any other company from building avatar tools themselves. What could matter most is whether Google decides to sell its avatar technology directly to consumers or charges VivaVideo so much for it that the app cannot make money.

Why
01
AI pressure: Google (Veo 3). VivaVideo's flagship AI Avatar feature runs on rented Google Veo 3, leaving Google free to launch its own consumer avatar tool and cut them out. Could AI do the core job? Yes, likely.
02
Bigger players: ByteDance (CapCut). CapCut already has 736M monthly users and ranks #2 on a16z's Gen AI app list, competing head on with the same free editing model. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. A large installed base, 500M+ downloads and years of app store history, keeps casual editors from switching immediately.
What would change this call
a16z's next Gen AI consumer app ranking (~Sept 2026) shows VivaCut's position. Further decline or delisting would confirm structural loss of ground to CapCut and peers.
Google changes Veo 3 API pricing or access terms. Would directly raise costs or limit VivaVideo's flagship AI Avatar feature, which it does not own.
Google launches its own consumer-facing avatar or video app using Veo 3. Would show the model supplier turning into a direct competitor, bypassing VivaVideo.

Questions people ask
Is QuVideo (VivaVideo) profitable in 2026?
No independently reported revenue or profit figures exist for QuVideo. Its last disclosed funding was a Series B in March 2016; the absence of newer rounds suggests it may be self-funded via app monetization, but no confirmed profitability data has been found as of 2026.
Could AI replace VivaVideo's core product?
VivaVideo's flagship AI Avatar feature is explicitly 'Powered by Veo 3 AI,' Google's model, per its Google Play listing (2026-05-08). Since core editing tasks like background removal and auto-captions are now AI-default industry-wide, VivaVideo's differentiation is thin and dependent on a rented model.
Who is QuVideo's biggest competitor?
ByteDance's CapCut is QuVideo's largest rival, with 736 million monthly active mobile users and a #2 spot on a16z's Top 100 Gen AI Consumer Apps as of January 2026 data, versus VivaCut's #49 ranking in the same March 2026 edition.
Is VivaCut losing ground to competitors?
Yes. VivaCut ranked #15 on a16z's Top 100 Gen AI Consumer Apps in March 2025 (Sensor Tower MAU data) but fell to #49 by the March 2026 edition, a steep one-year decline signaling relative share loss versus faster-growing rivals like CapCut.
Who owns QuVideo?
QuVideo Inc. is privately held, founded in Hangzhou, China in June 2012. Its last disclosed funding was a Series B in March 2016 with GuangZhao Capital, N5Capital, and Sinovation Ventures; no acquisition, IPO, or newer funding round has been publicly reported since.
Is VivaVideo safe to install or work with, given its corporate structure?
There is unresolved ambiguity: some app-store listings show the publisher as 'Vivalive (Hong Kong) Limited' rather than QuVideo Inc., as of a 2026 Play Store listing, and no independent confirmation clarifies whether this is a renamed subsidiary or a separate entity.
