The call

Atrisa is racing to lock in real chip customers and proprietary data before Cadence, Synopsys, or better-funded Astrus close the analog AI gap.

Refortif builds software to automate the design of analog circuits, a part of chip design that larger companies like Cadence and Synopsys have mostly ignored. That gap gives Refortif room to grow right now, and general AI tools like ChatGPT cannot do this work without special circuit data that Refortif could own. However, the clock is ticking: Cadence and Synopsys will likely add analog features in the next year or so, a better-funded competitor called Astrus is already moving fast, and Refortif has not yet proven it can sign major semiconductor customers and build the private circuit dataset that would lock in its advantage.

Why
01
AI pressure: Cadence and Synopsys internal AI teams (e.g. DSO.ai lineage). Frontier and incumbent AI still lack analog training data, but Cadence/Synopsys could ship analog AI features within 12-18 months and close the gap fast. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: Cadence Design Systems and Synopsys. Both dominate EDA and have already shipped AI for digital design; analog AI features in Virtuoso or Custom Compiler are the expected next step. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. A deterministic, domain-specific circuit dataset (about 2,000 analog designs) that generic AI models cannot easily replicate without similar proprietary data.
What would change this call
Cadence or Synopsys ships an analog AI feature into Virtuoso or Custom Compiler within 12 to 18 months. Shows incumbents closing the analog AI gap and shrinking Refortif's window.
Astrus announces a named semiconductor customer or design pilot partnership. Shows the better funded rival winning the proprietary data race first.
Refortif's Atrisa announces a signed pilot with a named fabless or IDM chipmaker by end of 2026. Shows Refortif securing the data partnership its survival depends on.
Key numbers
  • Astrus, a direct rival, raised $8M seed in mid-2025 (2025-08-28)
  • Atrisa's proprietary dataset covers about 2,000 circuits (2026-06-12)
  • Same three founders since rebrand from Refortif, June 2026 (2026-06-02)
Named risks
  • No signed pilot or data-partnership with a named fabless/IDM semiconductor firm as of mid-2026. Severity: high
  • Cadence or Synopsys could ship a production analog AI feature within 12-18 months, collapsing the window. Severity: high
  • Better-funded rival Astrus ($8M seed, active hiring) is ahead in the same niche. Severity: medium
  • Pre-revenue with no disclosed customers, contracts, or growth metrics. Severity: medium
  • Company already pivoted once from model-obfuscation tooling, indicating strategic volatility. Severity: low

Questions people ask
Is Refortif (now Atrisa) profitable in 2026?
No. As of the June 2, 2026 YC launch, Atrisa (formerly Refortif.ai) discloses no revenue figures and is described as pre-revenue, operating its analog design copilot in early pilot/beta stage with no named enterprise customers.
Could AI replace analog chip engineers through Atrisa's product?
Atrisa's own thesis, stated by its co-founder in a June 12, 2026 interview, is that agentic AI can encode the intuition-driven 'dark art' of analog circuit design, replacing much manual design and debugging work traditionally done by senior analog engineers.
Who is Atrisa's biggest competitor?
Astrus, a Canada-based AI analog-layout startup, closed an $8M USD ($11M CAD) seed round led by Khosla Ventures on August 28, 2025 and planned to add 6-10 hires, putting it ahead of Atrisa's undisclosed funding and three-person team.
Who owns Refortif.ai and Atrisa?
Atrisa is privately held and venture-backed via Y Combinator's 2026 batch, founded by Sayan Mitra (CEO), Atman Kar (CTO, ex-Texas Instruments), and Rithik Jain (COO), per the YC launch post dated June 2, 2026.
Did Refortif.ai change its business model?
Yes. Refortif.ai originally built post-training model-weight obfuscation tools (demoed on a Qwen3-4B model on Hugging Face) before pivoting entirely to agentic AI for analog circuit design and rebranding as Atrisa around June 2, 2026.
What moat does Atrisa have against Cadence and Synopsys entering analog AI?
Atrisa's stated moat is a proprietary training set of roughly 2,000 real analog circuits, built because public analog design data is scarce, per a June 12, 2026 founder interview; it has no signed customer data-partnerships yet.
