The call

Resonate holds a real data asset but sits between bigger identity players who could copy it and AI agents that could make the ad-targeting layer itself less necessary.

Resonate collects detailed profiles on millions of people, what they like, how they think, what devices they own, and sells that information to advertisers and marketers so they can target the right customers. The problem is that larger companies like TransUnion and LiveRamp already own huge amounts of customer data and can easily add psychology layers on top of what they have, so Resonate's data advantage is not locked in. At the same time, new AI agents are starting to do the predicting and targeting work automatically without needing human researchers to figure out which customers to reach, which makes the whole job Resonate does less necessary. The one thing that could change the picture is whether Resonate can move fast enough to embed itself deeper into how companies actually make decisions, before either the big data companies copy it or AI agents replace the need for human targeting advice altogether.

Why
01
AI pressure: Agentic commerce tools like ChatGPT+Etsy, Mastercard Agent Pay, Visa agent cards, Perplexity Buy with Pro. AI agents that buy directly for consumers skip the predict-then-target ad layer Resonate's data is built to feed. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: LiveRamp, TransUnion, Acxiom. These identity giants have the scale and client relationships to bolt on psychographic overlays with no technical barrier stopping them. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. A 250M+ profile, 1B+ device ID dataset with 12 to 15k psychographic attributes, if it stays exclusive and uncloneable.
What would change this call
LiveRamp or Acxiom announces a native psychographic segmentation product within a year. Would show the un-barred incumbents are cloning Resonate's core data differentiator.
Resonate discloses Cortex/Ignition revenue, retention or logo counts independently verified. Would show whether its 2026 product launches are reaccelerating growth or stalling.
Resonate undergoes a down-round, recapitalization, or additional headcount cuts under ZMC. Would show financial distress rather than stable PE-managed maturity.

Questions people ask
Is Resonate profitable in 2026?
No audited profit figures are public. Resonate claimed 81% YoY revenue growth and 122% EBITA growth in 2022 (company-sourced), but by 2026-06-25 Crustdata rated its growth as only 'modest' (32/100) with headcount down about 4% YoY, suggesting a maturing, not accelerating, business.
Could AI replace Resonate's core business?
Partly. Resonate's survey-based psychographic segmentation and manual insight work are directly exposed to agentic AI, which Resonate itself says compresses research-to-campaign workflows (blog, 2026-05-28). Its 250M-profile, 12-15k attribute dataset is harder to replicate, but the analysis layer on top is not.
Who owns Resonate now?
Private equity firm ZMC made a strategic investment in Resonate in July 2022 (terms undisclosed), a deal PitchBook classifies as a Buyout/LBO. As of June 2026, no new funding event has occurred since, roughly 48 months, per Crustdata.
Who is Resonate's biggest competitor?
TransUnion and LiveRamp/Acxiom are the named identity-data incumbents with no structural barrier to adding psychographic overlays like Resonate's. Crustdata (2026-06-25) also names TransUnion, Fullstory, BlueConic, and Lotame as direct competitors.
Has Resonate raised new funding recently?
No. Resonate's last disclosed funding event was the July 2022 ZMC private equity investment; as of June 2026, roughly 48 months had passed with no new disclosed round, per Crustdata (2026-06-25), consistent with a mature, PE-managed company rather than a growth-funded startup.
What is Resonate's core data asset?
Resonate's identity graph links over 1 billion device IDs to roughly 250 million U.S. consumer profiles, built from what it calls the largest ongoing consumer study plus 30 billion daily behavioral signals and 12,000-15,000+ psychographic attributes, per its own site (2026-06-08).
