The call

Restream still works and still has users, but it hasn't raised money in six years and traffic is shrinking while a richer rival gets called the default choice.

Restream is a tool that lets streamers send one video feed to YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, and other platforms all at the same time, without each platform blocking the stream. The reason this is hard to build is that it requires special permission and technical work with each platform, but it is getting easier to copy, especially since StreamYard (owned by a much larger company) is doing the same thing and spending more money to win customers. Restream's traffic has dropped and it has not raised money since 2020, which are red flags. The one thing that could turn this around is if Restream gets bought, gets a fresh round of investment, or finds a new way to make money from artificial intelligence features that creators actually want to pay for.

Why
01
AI pressure: None apparent. AI agents could eventually automate multi-platform publishing, but no lab or product does this today. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: StreamYard (owned by Bending Spoons). Better funded StreamYard is now the default pick in 2026 reviews while Restream traffic fell 16% in a quarter. Could a giant copy it? Probably.
03
What protects it. Platforms like YouTube and Twitch don't want to build a tool that helps creators leave them, so relay tools survive by default.
What would change this call
Restream announces a new priced funding round or acquisition within 6 to 12 months. Would show investors still see growth potential despite the 2020 funding gap.
YouTube ships a native first-party multi-destination streaming feature for creators. Would remove a core reason creators need Restream's relay service.
Restream's monthly web traffic keeps falling beyond the current 16% quarterly drop. Would confirm StreamYard and rivals are steadily drawing away its user base.

Questions people ask
Is Restream profitable in 2026?
Restream does not publicly disclose revenue or profit figures. No verified financial statements exist; third-party revenue estimates for 2024 vary by nearly 2x, so profitability cannot be confirmed. Its last confirmed capital event was a $50M Series A in August 2020, with no new round reported since.
Who owns Restream?
Restream is privately held and venture-backed, not publicly traded. Its August 2020 Series A ($50M) was led by Sapphire Ventures and Insight Partners, with Silverton Partners, Mana Ventures, Liquid 2 Ventures, and Iskra Ventures also participating. No acquisition has occurred as of mid-2026.
Who is Restream's biggest competitor?
StreamYard is Restream's closest rival. It was acquired by Hopin for $250M in January 2021, then acquired again by Bending Spoons in April 2024, giving it deeper capital backing. 2026 industry reviews frame StreamYard, not Restream, as the default multistreaming choice for most creators.
Is Restream hiring or laying off staff in 2026?
As of June 29, 2026, Restream's headcount was tracked at roughly 119 employees, up from about 92 in September 2024, but only one open job role was visible on hiring trackers at that time, suggesting minimal active expansion despite modest headcount growth.
Could AI replace Restream's product?
Restream's core multi-destination relay is low-differentiation plumbing that platforms could replicate, and its AI add-ons (transcription, script generators, AI Clips) overlap with generic LLM tools and apps like Opus Clip. In July 2026 Restream launched an MCP server letting Claude and ChatGPT manage streams directly, a defensive hedge rather than a moat.
Is Restream growing or shrinking?
Signals are mixed and mostly negative. As of June 29, 2026, restream.io's monthly web traffic (about 3.4 million visitors) had fallen 16.2% quarter-over-quarter, and the company has not raised new funding since its August 2020 Series A, roughly six years without a fresh priced round.
