Reveal (Reveal Data)
Reveal makes AI-powered eDiscovery and investigations software for litigation and compliance teams.
Reveal keeps a real customer base and compliance protection, but Relativity sets the pricing and AI terms while K1 sits on a five year old investment with no fresh capital and a new outside CEO.
Reveal helps lawyers search and organize documents for lawsuits and investigations. It is hard to replace because courts require a detailed record of who touched what documents and when, and special rules protect lawyers from accidentally leaking secrets, regular AI chatbots cannot do this. However, the market leader Relativity just made its AI tools free to all customers, which means Reveal has to do the same, cutting off one of its ways to make money. The company is getting smaller (fewer workers each year), has a new cost-focused manager, and has not raised fresh money in over five years, all signs that the owner K1 is preparing to sell rather than grow it.
Reveal reports headcount stabilizing or growing in 2026 trackers (e.g. Revelio, LinkedIn). Would show the cost-cutting phase under new CEO Harmon has ended.
Relativity launches a private-deployment product before 2028 Server sunset. Would close Reveal's main opening to capture displaced Relativity Server customers.
- K1 bought Reveal from Gallant Capital for $250 million
- Reveal used by 4,000+ organizations globally
- Relativity made aiR free in base pricing Nov 1, 2025
- Headcount shrinking 8 to 18 percent year over year across independent trackers through 2025 to 2026.
- AI features being commoditized industry wide, forcing Reveal to give aji away free through end of 2025.
- No new funding round since January 2021 under sole K1 ownership, limiting growth capital.
- Growth strategy leans on Relativity's 2028 Server sunset, a reversible competitor decision outside Reveal's control.
- New outside CEO since October 2025 profile consistent with cost cutting or preparation for sale rather than growth.
| Rival | Direction | Evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Relativity | losing to | Relativity holds 17 to 24 percent share and bundled aiR AI free into pricing Nov 1, 2025 |
| Everlaw | contesting | Everlaw made AI Assistant free for subscribers in late 2025 matching Reveal's free aji tier |

- Is Reveal Data profitable in 2026?
- Reveal does not disclose profitability publicly. It is privately held under K1 Investment Management since a $200 to 250 million investment in January 2021, with no new funding round reported since then as of mid 2026, per third party tracker Crustdata (2026-07-07).
- Who owns Reveal Data?
- K1 Investment Management holds majority ownership of Reveal Data, having invested over $200 million in January 2021 into the combined Reveal Brainspace entity after Gallant Capital Partners sold Reveal to K1 for a reported $250 million.
- Is Reveal Data laying off employees?
- Headcount trackers show decline rather than confirmed mass layoffs: Revelio Labs reports 740 employees in December 2025, down from 904 in 2023, an 18.2 percent drop, while Crustdata reports about 490 employees in June 2026, down 11.2 percent year over year.
- Who is Reveal Data's biggest competitor?
- Relativity, via RelativityOne, is the dominant incumbent, holding roughly 17 to 24 percent eDiscovery market share and called the gold standard for high stakes litigation in a March 2026 market analysis. Relativity bundled its aiR AI features into base pricing free on November 1, 2025.
- Could AI replace Reveal Data's eDiscovery platform?
- Unlikely to eliminate the category outright. Rules like the Sedona Principles, Rule 502(d), and ABA Formal Opinion 512 require chain of custody and audit trails that raw AI models cannot satisfy, though AI is automating review work inside platforms, including Reveal's own aji engine, which reached general availability on September 30, 2025.
- Did Reveal Data replace its CEO?
- Yes. Founder Wendell Jisa stepped down as CEO on October 14, 2025, moving to Chairman, and was replaced by Eric Harmon, previously of McKinsey, DXC, and Trustwave, a hire consistent with an operational cost discipline focus.
