The call

Roblox's creator economy is hard to copy, but its own child-safety reckoning, not a rival app, is what's currently cutting into growth and trust.

Roblox lets millions of players enjoy games built by millions of creators on its platform, and it keeps a cut of the money spent. It is hard to copy because so many creators and players are already there, and Epic Games' Fortnite Creative tool would need years to catch up. But Roblox faces a real problem right now: new safety rules that verify users' ages are making kids less likely to play, which cuts into money and user growth. Lawsuits over how the platform protects children and how it sells to investors could force more changes that hurt the business, and the one thing that matters most is whether kids stop playing for good or just accept the age checks and return.

Why
01
AI pressure: Roblox's own agentic Build tools plus text-to-3D (Cube). AI tools could flood the platform with low-quality auto-generated games, or let creators ship faster; outcome unproven as of the July 28, 2026 launch. Could AI do the core job? Unlikely.
02
Bigger players: Epic Games (Fortnite Creative/UEFN). Fortnite Creative offers a rival UGC economy backed by Epic's engine and IP, but no evidence yet it is pulling Roblox's DAU or creators away. Could a giant copy it? No, they are blocked.
03
What protects it. Hundreds of millions of players and millions of creators locked into Roblox's own currency, assets, and payment rails that took years to build.

Questions people ask
Is Roblox profitable in 2026?
No. Roblox posted a net loss with Q1 2026 EPS of -$0.35 as of March 31, 2026, and remains unprofitable on a GAAP basis despite FY2025 revenue of $4.89B, up 35.8% year over year.
Why did Roblox stock crash in 2026?
On April 30, 2026, Roblox cut its 2026 bookings growth guidance from a 24% midpoint to just 10%, tied to new age verification rollout friction, wiping out over $6.7B in market cap in a single day, an 18% drop.
Is Roblox facing lawsuits over child safety?
Yes. As of July 2026, federal Multidistrict Litigation No. 3166 in N.D. Cal. consolidates about 170 pending child sexual exploitation cases against Roblox, with discovery ongoing and no resolution reported yet.
Could AI replace Roblox as a gaming platform?
Unlikely soon. Roblox owns the distribution and installed base that make AI generated content findable and monetizable, and has built its own Cube, CubePart, and Build AI tools into its creator pipeline rather than being disrupted by outside AI, as of July 16, 2026.
Who is Roblox's biggest competitor?
Epic Games via Fortnite Creative and Unreal Editor for Fortnite, plus Microsoft owned Minecraft, are the closest incumbent rivals, though no dated evidence as of July 2026 shows either taking measurable Roblox user share.
Who owns Roblox Corporation?
Roblox is publicly traded (NYSE: RBLX) after a March 10, 2021 direct listing. Founder CEO David Baszucki retains majority voting control via dual class shares while his economic stake has been diluted, per a March 17, 2026 analyst estimate.
