The call

Rumble's video niche stays protected by YouTube's ad rules, but its new GPU cloud bet faces giants with far more scale and cash.

Rumble runs a YouTube competitor for creators advertisers avoid, plus a new GPU rental business (Quake AI) for AI companies. YouTube is hard to beat because advertisers trust it more, but Rumble's real problem is that GPU rental is a race to the bottom: Amazon, Google, and CoreWeave all rent GPUs cheaper and bigger. The company lost $30 million in three months and survives only because Tether keeps pouring in money and buying ads. If Tether stops writing checks or the GPU business stays unprofitable, Rumble has no obvious Plan B.

Why
01
AI pressure: AI-driven recommendation and moderation systems (e.g., YouTube's). AI curation makes YouTube stickier for advertisers, but it doesn't pull Rumble's uncensored niche audience away yet. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: CoreWeave, AWS, Azure, GCP. These hyperscalers dwarf Quake AI's ~22,000 GPUs and 250MW, and can undercut on price in a commodity GPU market. Could a giant copy it? Probably.
03
What protects it. YouTube's advertiser brand-safety rules leave room for Rumble's niche, and Tether keeps buying shares and ad spend to keep the lights on.
What would change this call
Q2 2026 earnings (~Aug 14, 2026) show Quake AI revenue run-rate and gross margin versus €170-190M guidance. Confirms whether the GPU pivot can fund itself or remains a cash drain.
Non-Tether ad revenue growth reported separately from Tether's $100M ad commitment. Shows whether video business can monetize independent of its largest backer.
Continued or halted Tether open-market share purchases over the next two quarters. Indicates whether Rumble still depends on Tether to support its stock and balance sheet.

Questions people ask
Is Rumble profitable in 2026?
No. Rumble posted a Q1 2026 net loss of $30.3M versus $2.7M in Q1 2025, even though FY2025 revenue topped $100M for the first time (reported 2026-03-05). Management says meaningful ad revenue is not expected until late 2026 or 2027, so near-term losses are widening, not shrinking.
Is Rumble laying off employees?
No layoffs are reported. Rumble standalone headcount rose from 135 (2024) to 156 (2025), and combined RUM Group headcount reached 277 by June 2026 per Crustdata, up 13.5% YoY, after folding in Northern Data's Quake AI staff.
Could AI replace Rumble?
Unlikely to replace Rumble's trust-based video community: its moat is ideological positioning and exclusive Truth Social hosting since 2022, not automation. But AI-driven moderation and recommendation could erode its 'less-automated' differentiation over time on the core video platform.
Who owns Rumble?
Founder Chris Pavlovski retains super-majority voting control. Tether is the largest outside shareholder after closing a $775M investment on 2025-02-07 (103.3M shares at $7.50), and made further follow-on purchases through June 2026, including $36.2M for 4.6M shares.
Who is Rumble's biggest competitor?
YouTube (Alphabet) dominates on scale and cannot chase Rumble's lightly-moderated niche without wrecking its ad model. On the new Quake AI cloud side, Rumble faces CoreWeave, which reported a $20B-plus backlog as of a May 2026 earnings report, a far larger commodity GPU rival.
What is Rumble's Northern Data acquisition about?
Rumble closed its roughly 85.2% acquisition of Northern Data AG on 2026-06-17, rebranding the parent as RUM Group Inc with a new GPU-cloud unit, Quake AI, operating about 22,000 Nvidia H100/H200 GPUs and roughly 250MW of power capacity.
