The call

Scott AI built a planning layer that Devin, Cursor, Copilot, and Kiro have each started building natively into their own products.

Scott AI sells software that lets teams write plans and specs before their AI coding assistants build the actual code. The company claims it works with any AI agent, not just one company's tools. But this middle ground is shrinking fast: Cognition AI (maker of Devin), Cursor, Microsoft, Amazon, and Google have all added planning features directly into their own products within months of each other. When customers can get planning built into the tools they already use, Scott's main selling point disappears. The one thing that could save Scott is if it stops trying to be neutral and instead becomes the place where companies keep records of all their AI agents' work, track their health, and audit what they built. That is harder for big companies to claim credibly than just adding a feature to their product.

Why
01
AI pressure: Cognition AI's Devin 2.0 (Interactive Planning). Devin now plans and validates approach before executing, copying Scott's spec-first workflow inside the agent itself. Could AI do the core job? Yes, likely.
02
Bigger players: Microsoft GitHub Copilot and Amazon Kiro. Copilot Workspace and Kiro now build spec review and approval gates directly into tools developers already use. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. Cross-agent neutrality and accumulated planning history, but neither is proven to survive a single-vendor platform copying the feature.
What would change this call
Cursor or GitHub Copilot ships a native plan-mode/spec-alignment feature by Q4 2026. Would show incumbents fully absorbing Scott's core differentiation.
Scott AI announces a seed round or messaging shift toward governance/observability within 6 months. Would show a pivot away from a feature incumbents can copy.
Independent, non-vendor-claimed data on customer retention after a rival ships native plan-mode. Would show whether workflow lock-in is real or just marketing.
Key numbers
  • Team size: 3 people, founded 2025 (YC F25) (2026-04-08)
  • Cursor ships 8-agent parallel plan/execute mode (2026-02-01)
  • No priced funding round publicly disclosed (2026-07-21)
Named risks
  • Core plan-mode differentiation already replicated natively by Devin, Cursor, Kiro, Augment within months. Severity: high
  • Only 3-person team competing against Cognition AI ($26B valuation) and Cursor (>$500M ARR). Severity: high
  • No disclosed funding amount or revenue; traction claims (Tenzo AI, Coinbase, speedup %) are vendor-authored and unverified. Severity: medium
  • Product has already repositioned once (Nov 2025 spec tool to 2026 alignment layer), signaling unsettled strategy. Severity: medium
  • Name collision with multiple unrelated Juno Labs entities creates brand and search confusion. Severity: low
