The call

Sentra has real customer love and fast growth, but operates in a DSPM category being folded into bigger platforms one acquisition at a time.

Sentra helps companies discover and protect private information scattered across cloud services like Amazon, Microsoft, and Google. It is hard to copy because Sentra watches clouds from the inside without installing software, and customers get locked into its processes. However, Microsoft, Google, Palo Alto Networks, and Veeam are all building or buying competing products and can push them to their existing customers for free or cheap, something Sentra cannot do. The key question is whether these bigger companies' tools work just as well as Sentra's; if they do, Sentra loses its pricing power and may have to sell itself to a larger company.

Why
01
AI pressure: None apparent. AI adoption is pushing companies to classify sensitive data before feeding it to models, which feeds Sentra's demand rather than eating it. Could AI do the core job? Unlikely.
02
Bigger players: Microsoft (Purview), Google (via Wiz), Palo Alto Networks (Dig/Cortex), Veeam (via Securiti). Cloud and security platform vendors are shipping native DSPM features bundled into suites customers already buy, undercutting Sentra on price and reach. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. Agentless cross-cloud scanning, deep compliance workflow integration, and Fortune 500 renewals make ripping Sentra out costly.
What would change this call
Sentra announces a priced Series C or acquisition within 6 to 9 months of July 2026. Would show whether investors still back Sentra as independent or push it toward consolidation.
Microsoft Purview or Google Wiz publish cross-cloud DSPM feature parity claims with pricing bundled into existing licenses. Would show hyperscalers commoditizing Sentra's core classification and discovery layer.
Cyera announces a large new funding round or major Fortune 500 wins in the next year. Would show whether Cyera, not Sentra, becomes the independent DSPM leader.
Key numbers
  • Series B: $50M raised (2025-04-22)
  • >300% YoY revenue growth at Series B (2025-04-22)
  • ~$18.9M estimated annual revenue (third-party) (2026-07-06)
Named risks
  • DSPM category consolidating into larger platforms (Veeam-Securiti, Google-Wiz, PANW-Dig), squeezing independents. Severity: high
  • Hyperscalers shipping native DSPM features could commoditize classification and discovery, pressuring pricing. Severity: high
  • No confirmed Series C over 14 months after April 2025 Series B despite claimed strong growth. Severity: medium
  • Tel Aviv area operations exposed to ongoing Iran-Israel missile strikes through at least 2026. Severity: medium
  • Conflicting revenue and headcount figures across sources reduce confidence in true scale. Severity: low

Questions people ask
Is Sentra profitable in 2026?
No profitability figures are disclosed. Sentra claimed over 300% year-over-year revenue growth at its April 2025 Series B, while a third-party estimate (ZoomInfo, July 2026) puts annual revenue near $18.9M, well below typical profitability thresholds for a venture-backed security startup.
Who owns Sentra?
Sentra is privately held and venture-backed, not publicly traded or acquired as of July 2026. It has raised roughly $103M total across Seed, Series A, and Series B rounds from investors including Bessemer Venture Partners, Standard Industries, and Key1 Capital.
Could AI replace Sentra's product?
Unlikely to fully replace it. Sentra's DSPM platform is itself built on ML classification models (98% accuracy claimed), and it now integrates with Anthropic's Claude Enterprise Compliance API (June 12, 2026), positioning itself as an enabler of enterprise AI governance rather than a target for AI disruption.
Who is Sentra's biggest competitor?
Cyera is Sentra's closest independent DSPM rival, while larger platform incumbents Microsoft (Purview), Google (via its Wiz acquisition closed March 11, 2026), and Palo Alto Networks (via December 2023 Dig Security acquisition) pose the bigger structural threat through native, bundled features.
How much funding has Sentra raised?
Sentra has raised approximately $103M total as of July 2026: a $23M Seed in April 2022 led by Bessemer, a $30M Series A in January 2023 led by Standard Industries, and a $50M Series B on April 22, 2025 led by Key1 Capital.
What is Sentra's current headcount?
Estimates vary by source: Crustdata puts headcount at 201 as of June 2026 (up 18.2% year-over-year), while BankInfoSecurity reported 131 employees around the April 2025 Series B, showing steady but moderating growth.
