The call

Showcase Gig now runs inside a profitable hardware parent with real distribution, but store growth has slowed and no AI-native ordering feature has shipped.

Showcase Gig is a 13-year-old app that lets restaurants take orders on phones and tablets, now fully owned by Glory Ltd., a large Japanese company that makes cash registers and payment machines. The company has real advantages: it plugs into Glory's 18,000 store terminals across Japan and works with the rail system, making it hard for new startups to copy. But growth stopped cold two years ago, and because Glory owns it completely, anyone joining now gets stock in the parent company, not a startup upside story. The thing that could change everything is if AI tools let restaurants do voice ordering or AI-powered customer tracking without needing a special app, or if a rival like Recruit (which already sells restaurant software) bundles mobile ordering into their existing product and wins over a big chain that Showcase Gig expected to keep.

Why
01
AI pressure: Generic voice or chat AI ordering agents (no named product shipped yet). Voice or chat AI could replace app menu browsing, but no rival or Showcase Gig has shipped an AI-native ordering feature yet. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: Recruit Holdings (Air-series/Airregi POS ecosystem). Recruit's Airregi POS network could bundle mobile ordering into restaurants it already serves, but hasn't shipped that feature. Could a giant copy it? Probably.
03
What protects it. Parent Glory's ~18,000 kiosk terminals, hardware sales channel, and payment compliance give O:der distribution most rivals lack.
What would change this call
Glory's Q1/Q2 2026 earnings disclose O:der segment revenue growth or lack thereof. Shows whether Glory is actually funding growth or letting the business stagnate inside a hardware parent.
dinii or Smaregi announces a marquee restaurant chain win previously expected to go to Showcase Gig. Would confirm rivals are actively displacing Showcase Gig in its core mobile-order niche.
Recruit ships a bundled mobile-order feature inside Airregi/Air-series POS. Would show Japan's dominant restaurant-SaaS platform folding in Showcase Gig's core function at scale.

Questions people ask
Is Showcase Gig profitable?
No audited public financials exist. Showcase Gig is private and became a 99.58%-owned subsidiary of Glory Ltd (TSE:6457) on October 11, 2024, with performance now folded into Glory's disclosures rather than reported standalone.
Who owns Showcase Gig now?
Glory Ltd, the Japanese cash-handling and payment-hardware manufacturer listed as TSE:6457, acquired 99.58% of Showcase Gig's shares effective October 11, 2024, after two earlier minority investments in 2021 and 2022.
Could AI replace Showcase Gig's O:der platform?
Conversational AI ordering could erode app-based menu browsing, but as of December 2025 no AI-native ordering feature had shipped from Showcase Gig or rivals. The company has open-sourced internal Cursor AI coding tools (Dec 3, 2025) but not a customer-facing AI feature.
Is Showcase Gig growing or stalling?
Vendor-claimed store deployment rose from about 4,500 stores in 2023 to about 5,500 in a January 2025 recruiting page, but CB Insights flagged the company with 'no recent growth signals' in a November 2025 snapshot.
Who are Showcase Gig's biggest competitors?
Direct rivals in Japan's restaurant mobile-order and POS-DX space include dinii, a LINE-integrated mobile-order POS that raised 350 million yen in 2021, plus TableCheck, Toreta, and Smaregi, which acquired Royal Gate/PAYGATE in 2024 to bundle POS and payments.
Is joining Showcase Gig as an employee a good equity bet?
Unlikely to offer independent startup upside: Glory Ltd took 99.58% ownership on October 11, 2024, so any equity offered to new hires is more likely Glory-linked stock or phantom units rather than an independently exiting startup stake.
