The call

SK AX keeps its captive SK Group customer base, but a sibling affiliate now owns the AI models and platform being pushed into those same accounts.

SK AX sells custom software and computer system setup to about 150 companies inside the SK Group family in South Korea. It used to be hard for outsiders to compete because SK Group keeps its work in-house, but that advantage is crumbling: SK Telecom, another company in the same family, just built its own AI software and the group's leadership is pushing everyone to use SK Telecom's version instead. At the same time, AI tools that write code automatically are making traditional IT service jobs less valuable across all of South Korea, SK AX has dropped from third to fourth place among domestic competitors, and the gap is getting worse. The next three to five years will depend on whether SK Group picks SK AX or SK Telecom as the main vendor for a major rollout scheduled for late 2026, and whether SK AX's new AI products called Marie and Master actually start bringing in real money.

Why
01
AI pressure: SK Telecom's A.X K1/K2 models and A. Biz agentic platform. SK Telecom is rolling its own foundation models and A. Biz platform into the same captive SK Group affiliates SK AX serves. Could AI do the core job? Yes, likely.
02
Bigger players: Hyundai AutoEver. Hyundai AutoEver overtook SK AX for #3 in Korean IT services in Nov 2025, and the revenue gap keeps widening. Could a giant copy it? Probably.
03
What protects it. Its status as SK Group's internal vendor gives it a customer base of roughly 150 affiliates that outside IT firms cannot bid for.

Questions people ask
Is SK C&C / SK AX in financial trouble?
No signs of financial distress appear in the numbers: revenue for YTD Q3 2025 reached KRW1.8987 trillion, up 4.8% year over year, and operating profit jumped 49.3% YoY to KRW141.4 billion over the same nine months. The concern is competitive rather than financial, since that 4.8% growth trails Hyundai AutoEver's 14.5% growth over the same period, of the 101 companies in SK AX's IT-services category as of the July 2026 assessment.
Who are SK AX's biggest competitors?
Within Korea's IT-services space, Samsung SDS, LG CNS, and Hyundai AutoEver are the main rivals, plus hyperscalers and global systems integrators competing for open-market AI transformation spend outside SK Group's captive deals. Samsung SDS posted KRW10.393 trillion in revenue over the first nine months of 2025, more than five times SK AX's KRW1.8987 trillion for the same period, and Hyundai AutoEver has overtaken SK AX in revenue with a gap now past KRW1 trillion as of November 2025.
What is SK AX's biggest risk?
The clearest risk is Hyundai AutoEver's faster growth (14.5% versus SK AX's 4.8% YoY through Q3 2025) widening an already-large revenue gap, a trend worth checking again by March 2027 if it holds through full-year 2026. A second pressure point is that SK AX's own agentic AI tool, X-Gentic Wire, is automating some of the IT-ops labor the company traditionally bills for, with about 40 client adopters as of June 2026 against a stated goal of roughly 100 by end of 2027.
Is SK AX at risk from AI?
Partly. Frontier agentic AI systems, including SK AX's own X-Gentic Wire tool, are automating the IT-operations labor that has historically driven the company's billable revenue; X-Gentic Wire had about 40 client adopters as of June 2026 against a stated goal of roughly 100 by end of 2027. At the same time, SK AX's guaranteed SK Group contracts and 100% ownership by SK Inc. give it a stable revenue base, even as growth in the open market trails Hyundai AutoEver's.
How does SK AX compare to Hyundai AutoEver?
Hyundai AutoEver has pulled ahead in scale and growth, posting FY2025 revenue of KRW4.2521 trillion against SK AX's YTD Q3 2025 figure of KRW1.8987 trillion, with growth of 14.5% versus SK AX's 4.8% over comparable periods. This has pushed the revenue gap past KRW1 trillion as of late November 2025, a trend the July 2026 assessment flags as a watch-item through full-year 2026, checked again by March 2027.
Why does SK AX still hold its position despite the pressure?
SK AX ranks 6th of 12 companies in its cohort, trailing peers like Kingdee, Nearmap, and Iress, but its guaranteed SK Group contracts provide a stable revenue floor. Its YTD Q3 2025 revenue rose 4.8% year over year to KRW1.8987 trillion with operating profit up 49.3% to KRW141.4 billion, reflecting how difficult it remains for competitors to pry away SK Group's internal IT work even as open-market growth lags rivals like Hyundai AutoEver, whose 14.5% growth over the same period has pushed its revenue lead past KRW1 trillion.
