The call

A physical bottleneck for the AI buildout, changing owners but not changing what it sells: space, power, and cooling that AI companies cannot do without.

STT GDC owns and rents out data centers in Asia-Pacific, providing space and power for companies and AI services that need computing infrastructure. It is hard to copy or replace because land, building permits, and reliable electricity in major cities are limited and take years to secure, and big tech companies like Google and Microsoft lock into long-term contracts once they move in. However, competitors like AirTrunk and Equinix are building new data centers in the same regions, so if too many new facilities open up, prices could fall and STT GDC's growth could slow.

Why
01
AI pressure: None apparent. AI is the customer here: every large language model run needs the power and racks STT GDC rents out. Could AI do the core job? Unlikely.
02
Bigger players: AirTrunk, Equinix, Digital Realty. Rivals are racing to add capacity in the same Singapore, Jakarta, and India markets, which could push lease rates down if supply outruns demand. Could a giant copy it? No, they are blocked.
03
What protects it. Scarce land, power permits, and government approvals in its markets take years to replicate, plus locked-in hyperscaler leases.

Questions people ask
Is ST Telemedia Global Data Centres being sold?
Yes. On 4 February 2026 a KKR-led consortium with Singtel agreed to buy the remaining 82% of STT GDC from ST Telemedia for S$6.6bn (~US$5.1bn), valuing the company at ~S$13.8bn (~US$10.9bn) enterprise value; India's CCI cleared the deal 15 July 2026.
Who will own STT GDC after the KKR/Singtel deal closes?
Post-completion, KKR will hold 75% and Singtel 25% of STT GDC, per the 4 February 2026 announcement. The deal, worth ~S$13.8bn EV, was expected to close by early H2 2026 and received Indian antitrust clearance on 15 July 2026.
Is STT Telemedia Global Data Centres profitable?
No consolidated, audited group revenue or profit figure is publicly available as of mid 2026. STT GDC describes itself on its own site as one of the world's fastest-growing colocation providers, but this is a company claim, not an independently verified financial disclosure.
Could AI replace STT GDC's data centre business?
No. AI workloads are STT GDC's demand driver, not a threat: every AI training or inference job needs physical colocation, power, and cooling that AI models cannot supply. The company was expanding physical capacity through 2026, including a new Seoul facility opened June 2026.
Who are STT GDC's biggest competitors?
AirTrunk, Equinix, Digital Realty, NTT Global Data Centers, and Princeton Digital Group are cited peers. STT GDC co-founded the Asia-Pacific Data Centre Association in January 2024 with these rivals, whose eight members together hold roughly 40% of the APAC market excluding mainland China.
Is STT GDC expanding into new markets in 2026?
Yes. STT GDC opened its first South Korea facility, STT Seoul 1, in June 2026 (a 60/40 joint venture with Hyosung Heavy Industries, up to 30MW), while also expanding its Jakarta campus and launching a 45MW AI-ready Chennai data centre in February 2026.
