The call

StubHub still leads North American ticket resale, but flat revenue, a falling stock, and Ticketmaster's grip on primary ticketing show its pricing power is under real pressure.

StubHub lets people buy and sell event tickets to each other, and it has about 40% of the North American resale market. The problem is that Ticketmaster, which also sells the original tickets, now runs its own resale service too, and new AI tools like ChatGPT are starting to replace StubHub's website by answering ticket questions directly without sending people to StubHub. If AI search pulls most customers away from StubHub's site, or if Ticketmaster pushes its own resale service hard, StubHub could lose the scale that makes it valuable.

Why
01
AI pressure: ChatGPT, Claude, and other AI shopping agents doing ticket search and comparison. AI assistants can search and compare ticket prices across sites, pulling discovery away from StubHub's own app and search bar. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: Ticketmaster/Live Nation. Ticketmaster controls primary ticketing for most major venues and runs its own resale marketplace, squeezing StubHub's supply and pricing power. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. Two sided scale (120M+ users, 40M+ tickets) and the FanProtect buyer guarantee that keeps sellers and buyers coming back to one marketplace.

Questions people ask
Is StubHub profitable in 2026?
Mixed. Q1 2026 Adjusted EBITDA was $72.1M (16% margin, up 400+bps YoY) on $446.0M revenue as of May 12, 2026, but Q4 2025 posted an EPS loss of -$1.56 versus -$0.03 expected, showing profitability is uneven quarter to quarter.
Who owns StubHub now?
StubHub Holdings Inc. is a public company (NYSE: STUB) since its IPO priced September 16, 2025 at $23.50/share. Founder Eric Baker, who bought StubHub back from eBay in 2020 for about $4B, remains Chairman and CEO.
Has StubHub's stock dropped since its IPO?
Yes. StubHub IPO'd at $23.50/share in September 2025 and hit a 52-week high of $27.89, but by July 22, 2026 shares traded around $8.67 to $11.50, with market cap near $3.4B, a roughly 60-70% decline.
Could AI replace StubHub's customer service or search?
Partially already happening: per StubHub's own Anthropic case study (June 5, 2026), AI handles an increasing share of customer support end-to-end 24/7, and Claude/ChatGPT integrations (April 23, 2026) let users discover StubHub listings inside chat assistants rather than StubHub's own app.
Is StubHub facing legal trouble?
Yes. StubHub paid the FTC $10M on April 9, 2026 for deceptive pricing, was fined about £900,000 by UK regulators on June 23, 2026 for hidden fees, and faces a US class action (July 13, 2026) and a Canadian class action over World Cup tickets (July 21, 2026).
Who is StubHub's biggest competitor?
Ticketmaster/Live Nation is the most structural threat, since it controls primary ticketing and runs its own overlapping resale marketplace. SeatGeek is also gaining ground, reportedly picking up MLS and NFL market share through 2025 and 2026.
