The call

Subito still leads Italian classifieds by scale, but it is buying traffic while Vinted ships the AI features Subito hasn't, and its parent has already sold two sibling markets.

Subito.it is Italy's largest marketplace where people buy and sell cars, homes, jobs, and used items. It built a strong position over 20 years by having the most buyers and sellers in one place, which makes it hard for competitors to break in. However, Vinted (a fast-growing secondhand app) is taking market share in fashion and general goods by using AI to let people list items in under a minute with automatic pricing, while Subito has not released a similar AI tool. The biggest sign of weakness is that Subito is spending 63% more on paid ads month-to-month to get visitors, while its unpaid search traffic is falling each month. If Subito does not launch an AI listing feature in the next 6 to 12 months while Vinted keeps growing, its advantage could shrink fast.

Why
01
AI pressure: Vinted. Vinted's AI image recognition and auto-pricing let users list secondhand goods in under 60 seconds, pulling fashion sellers from Subito. Could AI do the core job? Unlikely.
02
Bigger players: None apparent. Amazon and eBay have not built competing horizontal classifieds products in Italy, and vertical rivals like AutoScout24 stay in their own lanes. Could a giant copy it? No, they are blocked.
03
What protects it. Two decades of buyer and seller density across cars, real estate, jobs, and goods in one Italian app that new entrants have not replicated.
What would change this call
Subito launches an AI auto-pricing or image-recognition listing feature within 12 months. Would show Subito is closing the AI gap with Vinted rather than losing ground.
Subito's organic search traffic trend over next 2-3 quarters (from -3.72% MoM baseline). Continued decline would show rising reliance on paid traffic and weakening organic pull.
Adevinta sells or restructures Subito/Italy operations following Willhaben and Spain divestments. Would show Italy is losing its 'core market' status inside Adevinta's portfolio.

Questions people ask
Is Subito.it profitable?
No standalone financials for Subito.it are public; it is a wholly owned subsidiary of Adevinta ASA, which itself was taken private by a Permira and Blackstone led consortium for about €14bn, announced 21 November 2023 and cleared by EU antitrust 29 February 2024. No Subito-specific profit figure has been disclosed.
Who owns Subito.it?
Subito.it is a wholly owned subsidiary of Adevinta ASA, the pan-European classifieds group. Adevinta was taken private in a roughly €14bn buyout by a consortium led by Permira and Blackstone, announced November 2023 and cleared by EU regulators in February 2024. Subito has no independent stock listing or ticker.
Could AI replace Subito.it?
Not easily for its core liquidity, but Subito faces AI pressure: rival Vinted, valued around €8bn as of April 2026, uses AI image recognition and pricing to enable sub-60 second listings, while no public Subito AI feature response had been identified as of April 2026, per onlinemarketplaces.com.
Who is Subito.it's biggest competitor?
It depends on vertical: AutoScout24.it leads motors with 13.34M monthly visits, Idealista.it leads real estate with 35.97M visits, and eBay.it (36.62M visits) competes broadly, all per Semrush April 2026 data. Vinted, at roughly €8bn valuation and €813.4M 2024 revenue, is the fastest-growing threat in general goods.
Has Subito.it had layoffs?
No public evidence of layoffs at Subito.it was found. Parent Adevinta has instead been restructuring its broader portfolio, selling its Austrian Willhaben stake around March 2025 and its Spanish business (Infojobs, Fotocasa, Coches.net, Milanuncios, Habitaclia) to EQT, completed February 2026, while keeping Italy as a core market.
Is Subito.it losing market share to Vinted?
In the general goods and fashion vertical, yes it is contested: Vinted grew 2024 revenue 36% YoY to €813.4M and reached an €8bn valuation by an April 2026 secondary sale, while Subito's organic search traffic fell 3.72% month over month in June 2026, per Semrush data.
