The call

Sunbit sits on real merchant distribution and profitability, but its $1.1B valuation is five years old and rivals with far more capital are circling its verticals.

Sunbit lends money to customers at auto-repair shops, dental offices, and other service businesses, then gets repaid over time. The company has real advantages: it works with 40,000 businesses (including most U.S. auto-service centers) and has data from millions of actual loans, which helps it decide who to lend to. But Sunbit faces real threats. Larger lenders like Affirm and Klarna, which already dominate online buy-now-pay-later, are now building similar products for physical stores and services where Sunbit operates. The big question is whether Affirm can actually launch a working product in this space in the next year; if it does, Sunbit's advantage shrinks fast.

Why
01
AI pressure: None apparent. Sunbit's edge sits in merchant integrations and repayment data, not model quality, so AI copilots don't directly threaten the business yet. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: Affirm and Klarna expanding into physical service financing; Synchrony's CareCredit in dental and vet. Affirm and Klarna have signaled intent to enter auto-service and dental financing but haven't shipped a comparable merchant network yet. Could a giant copy it? Probably.
03
What protects it. Regulated lending licenses plus deep point-of-sale integration across 40,000+ service businesses that took years to install.
What would change this call
Affirm or Klarna announces a shipped auto-service or dental financing product with named merchant signups. Would show larger BNPL rivals directly contesting Sunbit's core physical-service niche.
Sunbit files an S-1 or announces IPO registration within 6 months. Would show confidence in growth story and force public disclosure of unit economics.
An ABS tranche tied to Sunbit receivables gets downgraded or warehouse credit lines shrink. Would show credit-market stress choking Sunbit's debt-financed origination model.
Key numbers
  • Revenue reached $260M (2024)
  • Revenue grew 35% year over year (Sept 2025)
  • 40,000+ businesses now use Sunbit (April 2026)
Named risks
  • Valuation frozen at $1.1B since May 2021 with all growth since financed by debt, not new equity. Severity: high
  • Dependence on continued access to warehouse debt and ABS markets; a rating downgrade could choke loan origination. Severity: high
  • CFPB structure and Regulation B litigation ongoing through mid 2026 could alter fair-lending compliance obligations. Severity: medium
  • Affirm and Klarna's stated expansion into physical-service and healthcare financing could erode Sunbit's niche differentiation. Severity: medium

Questions people ask
Is Sunbit profitable in 2026?
Sunbit reported three consecutive profitable quarters and 35% year over year revenue growth as of September 2025, when it appointed Shai Terem as CFO to prepare for its next growth phase, according to the company's own announcement.
Who owns Sunbit?
Sunbit is privately held, backed by VCs including Group 11, Zeev Ventures, Migdal, Harel, and AltaIR Capital. It reached unicorn status with a $1.1B valuation in a May 2021 Series D round and has not raised new priced equity since.
Will Sunbit go public?
As of July 2026 Sunbit had filed no S-1. Its September 2025 hire of CFO Shai Terem was read by outlets as IPO-prep signaling, but the company has funded growth entirely through debt and securitization since 2021 instead.
Who is Sunbit's biggest competitor?
Affirm and Klarna are the larger BNPL incumbents expanding toward physical services, while Synchrony's CareCredit is the entrenched rival in dental and vet financing; Sunbit still says it powers over 60% of U.S. auto dealership service centers as of 2026.
Could AI replace Sunbit?
Sunbit's underwriting runs on machine learning making decisions in 0.00003 seconds per its July 2026 press materials, but its defensibility rests on merchant integrations across 40,000+ businesses and a regulated bank partnership, not the model itself.
How much revenue does Sunbit make?
Sunbit reported $260M in revenue for fiscal 2024, up from about $191 to 198M in 2023, and stated 35% year over year growth as of its September 2025 CFO announcement, per company-sourced figures.
