TCL Technology Group
Chinese state-linked display panel maker, #2 globally in TV panels, #1 in big screens.
The display business is winning share and cash as Korean rivals pull back, but a bleeding solar subsidiary and unprofitable mobile OLED line sit inside the same balance sheet.
TCL Technology makes display panels for televisions and is the world's second-largest in that business, especially dominant in giant screens over 98 inches. It is hard to replace because making these panels requires huge factories and deep technical knowledge, and its Korean competitors Samsung Display and LG Display are pulling back, giving TCL room to grow. However, TCL's solar panel subsidiary has lost money nine quarters in a row and burned through roughly 22 billion yuan over three years, and if the parent company has to bail it out with cash, that could drain profits from the TV panel business and force TCL to raise expensive new money or sell assets.
CSOT mobile-OLED margin reported for two consecutive quarters in 2026. Whether TCL's mobile OLED narrows its gap versus Samsung and LG or keeps losing money.
Counterpoint or Omdia full-year 2026 global TV shipment share rankings. Whether TCL sustains a lead over Samsung or the December 2025 spike was temporary.

- CSOT display unit revenue RMB 105.24bn, up 17.4%
- TCL Zhonghuan solar unit: 9 straight quarterly losses, RMB 22bn+
- TCL Zhonghuan solar losses (RMB 22bn+ over three years) may force parent-level capital injection or restructuring.
- Mobile OLED business remains unprofitable (-7% margin) against profitable Korean incumbents.
- TV software differentiation increasingly ceded to Google Gemini, capping TCL's own margin capture from AI features.
- Chinese PV sector overcapacity is structural, affecting entire industry with no near-term price recovery signal.
- Sony Bravia Inc joint venture faces execution and brand-quality risk ahead of April 2027 launch.

- Is TCL Technology profitable in 2025?
- Yes. TCL Technology (000100.SZ) reported FY2025 operating revenue of RMB 184.06 billion, up 11.7% year over year, and net profit of RMB 4.52 billion, up 188.8% YoY, with operating cash flow of RMB 44.02 billion, up 49.1%, per its May 2026 results announcement.
- Is TCL Zhonghuan, TCL's solar unit, losing money?
- Yes, badly. TCL Zhonghuan posted nine consecutive quarterly losses through early 2026: RMB 9.818 billion lost in 2024, RMB 9.264 billion in 2025, and a further RMB 3.0 to 3.3 billion loss forecast for H1 2026, totaling over RMB 22 billion in three years, amid a Chinese solar price war.
- Is TCL bigger than Samsung in TVs?
- Not for the full year. TCL brand TVs hit about 16% global shipment share in December 2025, briefly topping Samsung's 13% that month per Counterpoint, but Samsung held the overall global TV lead for both Q4 2025 and full-year 2025, per flatpanelshd, February 2026.
- Could AI replace TCL Technology's manufacturing business?
- Unlikely. TCL's core is capital-intensive display panel and solar wafer fabrication, a physical manufacturing moat AI cannot replicate. But TCL's TV software layer increasingly relies on Google's Gemini AI as of October 2025, meaning value capture from the user interface may shift toward Google rather than TCL.
- Who owns TCL Technology Group?
- TCL Technology (000100.SZ) has no single majority shareholder. Founder chairman Li Dongsheng holds roughly 3.3 to 8.6% of shares, with Huizhou SASAC and Wuhan Optics Valley, both government linked, each holding 2 to 3%, and over 87% held by public and institutional investors as of August 2025.
- Is joining TCL Technology's display division safer than its solar division?
- Financially, yes. TCL CSOT, the display unit, grew revenue 17.4% to RMB 105.24 billion in 2025 with RMB 8.01 billion net profit, while sister unit TCL Zhonghuan (solar) posted its ninth straight quarterly loss and a March 2026 management overhaul signaling distress.
