The call

Teamworks sits deep inside elite league operations and payment workflows while Hudl and Catapult race to build the same universal platform through acquisitions.

Teamworks makes software that helps elite sports teams manage players, payments, and performance data. It is hard to replace because it has deals with almost every major professional and college team, owns special data from companies it bought (like player grading and contract models), and handles athlete payments in a way the government regulates and approves. The big risk is not that competitors like Hudl or Catapult will steal its customers, but that new federal laws about how college athletes get paid could break the newest products Teamworks is betting on, forcing the company to rebuild those parts fast.

Why
01
AI pressure: Generic AI scheduling/messaging copilots. AI chat tools could automate basic scheduling and messaging tasks, but not the proprietary scouting data or regulated payment rails Teamworks controls. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: Hudl. Hudl has rolled up 18 acquisitions and serves 325,000 teams, pushing from video and analytics toward the same ops-plus-data platform Teamworks sells. Could a giant copy it? Probably.
03
What protects it. Near-universal elite league distribution plus exclusive acquired datasets like PFF and Sportlogiq, wrapped in regulated athlete-payment infrastructure.
What would change this call
Any NFL, Premier League, or NHL team publicly switches its core ops platform to Hudl or Catapult within 12 months. Would show Teamworks' elite-league distribution moat is cracking.
Federal Protect College Sports Act revision finalized and its treatment of NIL/revenue-share payment rails. Would show whether Teamworks' Wallet and GM products face structural legal disruption.
PFF enterprise clients (NFL teams, NCAA programs) publicly drop or reduce usage post-acquisition integration. Would show integration execution failure and erosion of the proprietary-data moat.
Key numbers
  • 100% of NFL and NHL teams use Teamworks (2026-04-27)
  • $235M Series F at over $1B valuation (2025-06-17)
  • PFF acquisition covers all 32 NFL teams (2026-03-30)
Named risks
  • Pending Protect College Sports Act revision could restructure NIL rules underlying Teamworks GM and Wallet products. Severity: high
  • Integration execution risk from March 2026 PFF acquisition, which already triggered layoffs at PFF's consumer unit. Severity: medium
  • Sector-wide consolidation by Hudl, Catapult and Sony could erode differentiation as all race toward one platform vision. Severity: medium
  • Valuation rose from over $1.0B in June 2025 to over $1.5B in April 2026 without public revenue verification. Severity: medium

Questions people ask
Is Teamworks profitable in 2026?
Teamworks discloses no public profit figures; it is privately held and raised a $235M Series F in June 2025 at a valuation above $1.0B, then secured an Hg-led growth round in April 2026 pushing valuation above $1.5B, without releasing profitability data.
Who owns Teamworks?
Teamworks is privately held, founded and led by CEO Zachary Maurides. Dragoneer Investment Group led the $235M Series F in June 2025, and Hg Capital doubled its stake to $200M total in an April 2026 growth round that pushed valuation above $1.5B.
Could AI replace Teamworks?
Generic parts of Teamworks like scheduling and messaging are exposed to AI commoditization, but its proprietary datasets from PFF, Sportlogiq and Telemetry, plus regulated payment infrastructure in Wallet with Sprintax tax compliance, are not easily replicated by generic AI tools as of March 2026.
Who is Teamworks' biggest competitor?
Hudl is the largest rival by scale, serving 325,000 teams across 40 sports with 3,200 employees and 18 acquisitions including five in 2025 alone, per Sports Business Journal reporting from November 24, 2025. Catapult Sports and Sony are also converging on the same platform ambition.
Did Teamworks acquire Pro Football Focus?
Yes. Teamworks announced acquisition of PFF's enterprise business in a reported nine-figure deal on March 30, 2026. PFF's data is used by all 32 NFL teams and more than 240 NCAA programs; PFF's consumer media arm stayed with founder Cris Collinsworth in an advisory role.
What does Teamworks Wallet do?
Teamworks Wallet is a digital banking product for NIL, revenue-share, per diem and housing payments to student-athletes, launched mid-2025 with zero platform fees and Sprintax-powered international tax compliance. It had processed more than $60M in third-party NIL payments as of June 26, 2025, per the company.
