The call

ThoughtSpot has real enterprise traction but sits between warehouse native AI from below and bundled giants from above, with stalled funding and shrinking headcount as the tiebreaker.

ThoughtSpot sells software that lets companies ask questions about their data and get answers using AI, mainly to large corporations. For years it was hard to copy because it had special technology for organizing data safely and letting other companies embed it into their own products. Now Microsoft, Google, and Salesforce are adding the same AI features directly into their own tools (Power BI, Looker, and Tableau), and they reach customers much easier through deals they already have. The biggest new threat might be simpler: Snowflake and Databricks are letting companies ask their data questions directly from where the data lives, skipping ThoughtSpot entirely. What could save ThoughtSpot is if its new strategy works: acting as the trusted safety layer that sits between AI chatbots like ChatGPT and company databases, rather than trying to be the main interface companies use.

Why
01
AI pressure: Snowflake Cortex Analyst, Databricks native conversational analytics, ChatGPT/Claude/Gemini direct warehouse Q&A. Warehouses now answer questions directly, cutting the need for a separate BI layer like ThoughtSpot sits on top of. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: Microsoft Power BI Copilot, Salesforce Tableau Next/Agentforce, Google Gemini in Looker. Bundled into M365, Fabric, and Salesforce contracts these give buyers a free or cheap AI analytics option next to ThoughtSpot's standalone product. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. Deep governed semantic layer, enterprise security certifications, and embedded distribution inside Fortune 100 workflows.
What would change this call
ThoughtSpot files an S-1 or announces a fresh primary funding round at or above the 2023 $4.49B mark. Would show investor confidence intact and the stale-valuation concern resolved.
ThoughtSpot headcount and job postings stabilize or grow in 2026 instead of continuing to contract. Would show the company is investing for growth rather than shrinking under competitive pressure.
Fortune 100 renewal announcements naming Power BI Copilot, Tableau Next, or Cortex Analyst as replacements for ThoughtSpot. Would confirm bundled incumbents are directly displacing ThoughtSpot in enterprise accounts.

Questions people ask
Is ThoughtSpot profitable in 2026?
No public profitability figures have been disclosed. ThoughtSpot is privately held with roughly $150M ARR reported as of September 2023 and reported 40% YoY SaaS growth in FY2024 (August 2024), but no profit/loss data has been released as of July 2026.
Could AI replace ThoughtSpot?
Partially exposed. Warehouse-native conversational analytics (Snowflake Cortex Analyst, Gemini in Looker) and general LLM chat interfaces can already do ad hoc data Q&A, prompting ThoughtSpot to embed its Spotter agent directly into Claude and ChatGPT via MCP server as of May 2026 to stay relevant.
Who is ThoughtSpot's biggest competitor?
Microsoft Power BI Copilot, bundled into Microsoft 365/Fabric, is the most structurally dangerous rival due to superior distribution, alongside Salesforce's Tableau Next/Agentforce and Google's Gemini in Looker; Snowflake's native Cortex Analyst is considered the most dangerous threat from below the stack.
Who owns ThoughtSpot?
ThoughtSpot is privately venture-backed, founded in 2012 by Ajeet Singh and Amit Prakash, with investors including Silver Lake Waterman, Lightspeed, Sapphire Ventures, Snowflake Ventures, and Khosla Ventures. Its last primary round was Series F-1 in July 2023, raising $124.6M at a $4.49B valuation.
Will ThoughtSpot IPO soon?
Unclear. IPO speculation has recurred since 2019 but no S-1 has been filed as of July 2026. A new CFO, Brad Roberts, was hired in February 2025 without a disclosed public-offering track record, and market commentary as of May 2026 describes IPO chatter as having quieted.
What is ThoughtSpot's current valuation?
ThoughtSpot's last confirmed primary valuation was $4.49B in July 2023 (Series F-1, $124.6M raised). Secondary-market pricing trackers as of July 2026 suggest the implied valuation has drifted down, estimated in a range of roughly $1.6B to $4.2B depending on source.
