The call

Tia has real patients and real data, but its survival now hinges on closing a Series C and fixing clinic economics before cash runs out.

Tia runs physical doctor's offices that combine digital tools with in-person care, aiming to give better service than traditional clinics. The problem is not that competitors cannot copy what Tia does, larger health systems like Cedars-Sinai and Maven Clinic (which focuses on employers) already have better funding and existing patient networks to build the same thing, and Tia has already laid off staff twice in 2025 without closing its Series C funding round. The one thing that could save Tia is if its clinics can somehow make money per patient faster than its competitors did, but earlier companies like Forward (which raised $650 million) and Walmart Health's clinic chain both failed despite huge budgets, so the odds are against it.

Why
01
AI pressure: None apparent. AI shows up as a tool here, not a hunter. Tia already runs Nabla to cut documentation time, not to replace clinicians. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: Health systems like Cedars-Sinai and CommonSpirit, plus Maven Clinic's employer-benefits model. Big health systems can copy the integrated-care experience and undercut on cost, while Maven wins employer contracts with leaner economics. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. Loyal patients and strong clinical outcomes data, but nothing stops a better-funded rival from copying the model.
What would change this call
Tia's Series C closes (or fails to close) between Q4 2025 and Q2 2026. Shows whether investors believe Tia's clinic model can reach profitability before cash runs out.
California regulatory action on Tia's lapsed business-name licenses and missed-pregnancy allegations by late 2026. Shows whether the patient-safety and compliance issues carry real legal or financial consequences.
Additional Tia clinic closures or a further workforce reduction after the October 2025 cut. Shows whether per-clinic unit economics are still deteriorating despite the layoffs.

Questions people ask
Is Tia profitable in 2026?
No public profitability figures exist. Tia's October 2025 layoffs of 72 employees, about 23% of staff, were explicitly tied by CEO Felicity Yost to investor demands for accelerated profitability ahead of a still-unclosed Series C round.
Did Tia lay off employees recently?
Yes. In October 2025 Tia cut 72 employees, roughly 23% of its workforce, across corporate, provider, and field support roles. This was Tia's second layoff round, following an earlier cut in July 2022.
Who founded Tia and who runs it now?
Tia was founded in 2017 by Carolyn Witte and Felicity Yost, opening its first NYC clinic in March 2019. Witte stepped down as CEO in April 2024 to become Chairwoman, with co-founder Felicity Yost becoming CEO.
Could AI replace Tia's doctors?
Unlikely for now. Tia deployed Nabla's ambient AI scribe company-wide in March 2025, cutting documentation time about 50% across 90+ providers, but physical exams, procedures, and licensed-clinician liability remain outside AI's current reach.
Who is Tia's biggest competitor?
Maven Clinic is the closest scaled rival, reportedly generating about $268 million in ARR as of February 2026 versus Tia's small clinic footprint. Kindbody, Midi Health, and Allara Health compete in adjacent women's health niches.
Has Tia closed its Series C funding round?
As of October 2025, Tia's Series C had not closed; CEO Felicity Yost referenced investor feedback demanding accelerated profitability before the round advances. Total funding raised to date is reported around $150 million.
