The call

TMA survives on relationships and cost, but its coding-hours business sits exactly where AI tools and bigger rival FPT Software both press hardest.

TMA Solutions hires engineers in Vietnam to write code, test software, and fix bugs for companies around the world. The problem is that AI tools like GitHub Copilot and Claude Code now do much of this work automatically, so customers need fewer engineer-hours than before. A bigger competitor, FPT Software, already does the same work at five times larger scale. The one thing that could save TMA is if it shifts away from basic coding tasks and focuses instead on specialized work like automotive software or telecom systems, where AI is less useful and customers still need human expertise.

Why
01
AI pressure: GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code and similar AI coding tools. These tools cut the coding, testing, and support hours TMA bills clients for, squeezing its core business model. Could AI do the core job? Yes, likely.
02
Bigger players: FPT Software. FPT Software runs the same offshore model at roughly five times the scale, over $1B in overseas revenue, and pushes the same AI pivot. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. Long-standing client relationships (Avaya a decade-plus) and specialty centers in automotive, embedded, and telecom work that need more than raw coding hours.
What would change this call
TMA headcount trend through 2026 (compare to 6,607 Dec 2025 figure). A sustained decline would show AI tools or client losses are compressing billable-hour demand.
A named enterprise win in automotive AUTOSAR/embedded/safety-critical work disclosed publicly. Would show a real pivot away from commodity coding hours toward certification-gated work.
Any public report of a marquee TMA client moving work to FPT Software or an AI-native vendor. Would confirm the named incumbent or AI tools are actively displacing TMA in accounts.
Key numbers
  • ~6,607 staff as of Dec 2025 (2025-12)
  • Headcount dipped to 5,824 in Q4 2024, -14% (2024-Q4)
  • 92% of staff based in Vietnam (2025-12)
Named risks
  • Core revenue depends on billable coding/QA/testing hours directly exposed to AI code generation tools. Severity: high
  • No structural moat versus 5x-larger FPT Software or global IT services giants competing on price. Severity: high
  • No audited financials disclosed; conflicting unverified revenue estimates create opacity for outside evaluation. Severity: medium
  • Headcount volatility, 14% drop in Q4 2024, signals possible demand softness or AI-driven downsizing. Severity: medium
  • Private, founder-owned structure gives employees no visible equity liquidity or exit path. Severity: medium

Questions people ask
Is TMA Solutions profitable?
TMA Solutions discloses no audited financials. It is privately owned and bootstrapped since founding in 1997, with no external venture funding or valuation disclosed as of July 2026, so profitability cannot be independently verified from public sources.
Could AI replace TMA Solutions engineers?
Much of TMA's core work (coding, QA, testing, porting) overlaps with tasks AI coding assistants like Copilot and Cursor already automate. Its Revelio-tracked headcount dipped 14% to 5,824 in Q4 2024 before rebounding to 6,607 by Dec 2025, a volatile signal.
Who is TMA Solutions' biggest competitor?
FPT Software, Vietnam's largest IT outsourcer with about 30,000 employees and over $1 billion in overseas revenue as of 2023, is roughly 5 times TMA's size, which stood at about 6,607 employees as of December 2025 per Revelio Labs.
Who owns TMA Solutions?
TMA Solutions is privately owned and bootstrapped, founded in 1997 by Dr. Nguyen Huu Le, who is listed as Chairman of TMA Technology Group as of July 2026. No external venture funding rounds or valuation have been publicly disclosed.
Is TMA Solutions growing or shrinking?
Headcount fell 14% to a low of 5,824 in Q4 2024 (Revelio Labs), then rebounded 12.6% in 2025 to about 6,607 by December 2025, a volatile pattern that watchers link to demand softness or AI-driven productivity compression.
Does TMA Solutions do AI work?
Yes. TMA launched an AI as a Service offering with cloud partner True IDC on Nov 29, 2024, and states it has 700+ AI/ML staff and has delivered 100+ AI projects as of November 2025, per its own company claims.
