Tmall
Alibaba's B2C marketplace for branded goods, serving 1B+ Chinese shoppers.
Tmall still runs China's biggest branded storefront, but Pinduoduo, Douyin, and mounting regulatory bills are eating into the lead.
Tmall is a huge online marketplace in China where brands sell directly to customers, owned by Alibaba. It's hard to replace because it has built-in advantages: a payment system (Alipay), its own delivery network, ways to check that products are real, and data on over a billion shoppers. But Pinduoduo and Douyin have already stolen customers by offering cheaper prices and fun ways to shop through video and social features, and Tmall is spending huge amounts of money on artificial intelligence which is eating into its profits. The biggest thing that could change everything is whether the Chinese government continues to block or fine Alibaba, which could suddenly make the whole company less valuable.

Future GMV comparisons between Taobao+Tmall and Pinduoduo/Douyin from independent market trackers. Would show whether the gap in customer share continues to widen or narrows.

- Is Tmall losing market share to Pinduoduo and Douyin?

- Yes. Alibaba agreed July 1, 2026 to a $600 million DOJ settlement over illegal pharmaceutical sales on its platforms, was added to the Pentagon's 1260H list on June 8, 2026, and its AliExpress unit was fined 550 million euros by the EU on July 22, 2026.
- What is Tmall's biggest competitor?
- Domestically, Pinduoduo and Douyin are cited by Alibaba's own competitive analysis as the primary threats, with Pinduoduo's low-price social model and Douyin's livestream commerce model growing faster than Taobao/Tmall as of 2026.
