The call

TNG Wallet holds an old licence in a room now run by Octopus, AlipayHK, WeChat Pay, and Tap & Go, with no visible product activity since mid-2024.

TNG Wallet is a mobile wallet app that lets people in Hong Kong pay for things and send money, similar to Octopus, AlipayHK, and WeChat Pay. It is impossible to defend because those bigger rivals have way more users, money behind them, and partnerships with stores and banks, and TNG Wallet stopped updating its app in July 2024 and has not released any financial results ever. The one thing that could change everything is finding official proof from Hong Kong's regulators showing whether TNG Wallet's license is still active or officially surrendered, because right now it is unclear if the company even still exists.

Why
01
AI pressure: None apparent. AI agents are not the pressure point here; the app looks inactive before any AI wallet feature could matter. Could AI do the core job? Yes, likely.
02
Bigger players: AlipayHK, WeChat Pay, Octopus, Tap & Go. AlipayHK is now called Hong Kong's most-used wallet while TNG shows no updates or activity since mid-2024. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. Holding SVF licence SVF0003 if still active is the only thing keeping it legally alive; no product edge remains.
What would change this call
HKMA SVF licensee list shows SVF0003 status for TNG (Asia) Limited. Confirms whether TNG Wallet is still legally licensed to operate.
Any TNG Wallet app update or press statement appears in 2025. Would indicate the product is still active rather than abandoned.
Formal licence-surrender or float-return notice filed with HKMA. Would confirm the company has formally wound down operations.

Questions people ask
Is TNG Wallet still operating in Hong Kong in 2026?
Evidence suggests TNG Wallet has been discontinued since the end of 2024. A Wise consumer finance guide updated 2025-06-29 states this explicitly, and the app's last update (version 4.2.6) was 2024-07-11, with no substantive product news found since.
Who owns TNG Wallet?
TNG Wallet is operated by TNG (Asia) Limited, a subsidiary of TNG FinTech Group founded by Alex Kong. Claims linking it to Asia Financial Holdings (HKEX 662) are unverified; that is a separate insurance holding company with no fintech segment as of its 2026-04-15 annual report.
Is TNG Wallet profitable?
No profitability has ever been publicly reported for TNG Wallet Hong Kong. No revenue disclosure exists after its $115M Series A in September 2017, and no independent source confirms current or historical earnings for the entity.
Who is TNG Wallet's biggest competitor?
AlipayHK is described as Hong Kong's most-used e-wallet as of 2025-09-12, and Octopus remains the dominant legacy payment system. Both were licensed alongside TNG Wallet in the original 2016 batch of five SVF holders but have far outpaced it.
Could AI replace TNG Wallet?
TNG Wallet shows no visible AI investment while rivals move ahead: Ant International, AlipayHK and TNG Digital Malaysia launched an AI-powered fraud protection tool (EasySafePay 360) on 2025-09-12. With the app apparently dormant since mid-2024, it isn't competing on AI at all.
Is TNG Wallet the same company as Touch 'n Go eWallet in Malaysia?
No. TNG Wallet Hong Kong is run by TNG (Asia) Limited, while the Malaysian TNG eWallet is operated by TNG Digital Sdn Bhd, a joint venture of CIMB-owned Touch 'n Go and Ant Financial. The Malaysian entity reported its first annual profit on 2026-05-19 with 26 million-plus verified users.
