The call

Ubisoft still owns the IP that made it famous, but the parent company is bleeding money, staff, and market value faster than any single AI tool could take from it.

Ubisoft creates video game series that millions of people play, like Assassin's Creed and Far Cry, and these games have proven they can still sell well (one recent Assassin's Creed game sold 3 million copies in a week). However, the company lost over a billion euros in the past year, its revenue dropped by more than one-fifth, and it is laying off employees in multiple rounds while competitors like Electronic Arts and Microsoft are making money and gaining players. The big question is whether Ubisoft can stop bleeding money by 2027 and 2028 without breaking apart, because right now the company's own game studios are worth more to investors than the parent company itself.

Why
01
AI pressure: None apparent. No AI lab or agent is eating Ubisoft's business yet; AI tools are being used internally to speed up Far Cry 7 production. Could AI do the core job? Unlikely.
02
Bigger players: Electronic Arts, Take-Two Interactive, Microsoft (Activision/Xbox Game Pass). EA and Take-Two keep shipping hits and growth while Ubisoft's revenue fell 22% and it posted a €1.3B operating loss. Could a giant copy it? Probably.
03
What protects it. Assassin's Creed, Far Cry, and Rainbow Six are proven, shipped franchises now walled inside Vantage Studios, backed by Tencent at a €3.8B valuation above the parent's own market cap.

Who owns Ubisoft?
The Guillemot founding family controls Ubisoft with about 14% of capital but over 20% of voting rights via double-voting shares (as of March 2026). Tencent holds roughly 9.99% directly plus about 49.9% of the Guillemot family's holding company, per canvasbusinessmodel.com.
Is Ubisoft stock crashing?
Yes. Ubisoft shares are down about 93% since their 2018 peak and crashed roughly 33% in a single session in January 2026, hitting a 13-year low, according to shattered.io (2026-07-09).
Who is Ubisoft's biggest competitor?
Electronic Arts, Take-Two Interactive, and Microsoft (via Activision Blizzard/Xbox Game Pass) are Ubisoft's main AAA rivals. EA posted record FY2026 net bookings of $8.026 billion (+9% YoY) while Ubisoft's net bookings fell 17.4% over the same period.
Could AI replace Ubisoft's game developers?
Not currently. Ubisoft uses AI tools like Ghostwriter (2023) for first-draft NPC dialogue and 'Teammates' (accelerated investment announced May 2026) for natural-language NPC interaction, but these are positioned as production aids for writers and designers, not replacements, per company statements.
