The call

Unitree makes the cheapest humanoids on earth using China's own supply chain, but that same supply chain lets AgiBot and UBTECH undercut it too, while Washington moves to wall it off from Western buyers.

Unitree Robotics builds and sells humanoid and four-legged robots made cheaply in China, selling thousands per year at prices rivals cannot match. The company is hard to compete with right now because it uses the same supplier network as drone and battery makers in China, letting it build robots for $5,900 instead of $150,000. But this advantage only works against Western companies like Boston Dynamics, not against other Chinese robot makers like AgiBot or UBTECH who use the exact same suppliers. Two big problems are coming: Chinese rivals are starting a price war that could crush profits, and the U.S. government is moving to ban Unitree robots from American markets, which used to be half the company's sales. The one thing that could save the company is if its robots learn and improve faster than competitors through data collected from thousands already sold, creating a gap that price alone cannot close.

Why
01
AI pressure: Open VLA models from Alibaba Qwen, DeepMind, and others. Unitree's own UnifoLM brain layer could get eclipsed if a frontier lab's model becomes the plug in any robot maker uses. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: AgiBot and UBTECH. Chinese rivals on the same DJI/BYD supply chain match Unitree on price and now dispute its #1 shipment claim, with AgiBot near 5,100 humanoids in 2025. Could a giant copy it? Probably.
03
What protects it. Vertically integrated Chinese manufacturing lets it sell humanoids at $5,900, a price Boston Dynamics and other Western makers cannot touch.
What would change this call
Whether AgiBot's 2026-2027 shipment or revenue figures surpass Unitree's. Would show AgiBot overtaking Unitree as the volume leader in China.
Whether US Congress passes the GUARD Act or expands bans beyond military use of Unitree robots. Would show Western market access closing further, cutting a historically large revenue source.
Unitree's STAR Market IPO pricing versus the $5.9-7B implied valuation. Would show whether investors believe the moat justifies a 3.5x markup over 2025 private value.
Key numbers
  • 2025 revenue $235-252M, up ~335% YoY (2026-07-24)
  • 5,500+ humanoids shipped 2025, most globally (2026-07-24)
  • IPO implied valuation $5.9-7B, 3.5x 2025 private mark (2026-07-23)
Named risks
  • US Pentagon blacklisting and pending Congressional bans could close off historically 55%+ export revenue. Severity: high
  • Domestic price war, R1 undercutting G1 by two thirds, could erode margins. Severity: medium
  • Security researchers found wormable Bluetooth flaws and undisclosed data transmission to Chinese servers. Severity: medium
  • Core AI brain layer (VLA, world models) could be commoditized by frontier labs like Alibaba Qwen or DeepMind. Severity: medium
  • IPO pricing could compress the implied $5.9 to 7 billion valuation under regulatory or competitive headwinds. Severity: medium

Questions people ask
Is Unitree Robotics profitable?
Unitree says it has been GAAP profitable since 2024, with adjusted margins around 18 to 35 percent, on 2025 revenue of roughly $235 to 252 million, up about 335 percent year over year from about $58 million in 2024, per its IPO filing as of April 2026.
Is Unitree going public and when?
Unitree filed for a Shanghai STAR Market IPO on March 20, 2026 seeking about $618 to 620 million, and China's CSRC approved the registration on July 3, 2026 after a record 73 day review. As of July 24, 2026 no listing date or share price had been finalized.
Who is Unitree Robotics' biggest competitor?
Unitree's closest rival is AgiBot, a Chinese humanoid maker that shipped a near identical 5,100 to 5,168 humanoid units in 2025 versus Unitree's 5,500 plus, making the global shipment leader claim contested as of July 2026. UBTECH is another domestic peer but reportedly loses about RMB 700 million a year.
Could AI replace Unitree Robotics?
Unitree's hardware cost advantage from China's EV and drone supply chain is hard for AI to replicate, but its 'brain' layer, world model and vision language action systems like UnifoLM, could be commoditized by frontier labs such as Alibaba's Qwen or DeepMind, making the software differentiation fragile as of July 2026.
Has the US government banned Unitree robots?
The Pentagon added Unitree to its Section 1260H 'Chinese military company' list on June 8, 2026, and as of July 24, 2026 the US House had passed an NDAA provision barring US military use of Chinese linked humanoid robots, with further Congressional bills pending.
How much is Unitree Robotics worth?
Unitree's June 2025 Series C valued it at RMB 10 to 12 billion, roughly $1.4 to 1.7 billion. Its pending Shanghai IPO, approved July 3, 2026, implies a valuation of about $5.9 to 7 billion, roughly 3.5 times its mid 2025 private valuation, per July 23, 2026 analysis.
