The call

Whispir now exists as a private subsidiary inside Soprano Design, its growth and survival tied entirely to a parent that has not said what it plans to do with it.

Whispir sends alerts and messages for emergencies and compliance, but its revenue fell 54% in half a year and it was bought for a fraction of what it was worth before. Bigger competitors like Everbridge and Twilio do the same thing better and have more customers, while artificial intelligence can now write messages and handle voice calls almost as well as Whispir's specialized tools. The one thing that could matter: whether its new owner Soprano Design keeps Whispir as its own brand or folds it into Soprano's platform, which typically happens inside two or three years when a private equity firm buys a struggling company like this.

Why
01
AI pressure: Generic large language models and built-in AI compose tools (e.g., Twilio's AI features). Free AI drafting tools copy Whispir's own Compose AI feature, stripping out one of its few differentiators. Could AI do the core job? Yes, likely.
02
Bigger players: Twilio and Everbridge. Twilio's CPaaS scale and Everbridge's critical-event dominance both already operate in Whispir's markets. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. Government and enterprise clients still need Whispir's compliance and OTP verification tools, giving Soprano a reason to keep funding it.
What would change this call
Soprano publicly names Whispir as a distinct growth brand with new hires or investment. Would show Whispir is being grown, not harvested, inside Soprano.
Soprano folds Whispir's platform/branding into a unified Soprano product within 2-3 years. Would confirm PE roll-up consolidation and sunset of Whispir as standalone.
Soprano pursues an IPO or secondary sale involving Whispir assets. Would indicate a liquidity event validating or resetting Whispir's fire-sale valuation.

Questions people ask
Is Whispir still publicly traded on the ASX?
No. Whispir was removed from the ASX Official List effective 6 March 2024 after Soprano Design's compulsory acquisition, which valued the company at roughly $75 million ($0.55/share), about 85% below its earlier peak market cap above $500 million.
Who owns Whispir now?
Whispir is a wholly owned private subsidiary of Soprano Design, a Potentia Capital PE-backed CPaaS company. Soprano's voting power reached 78.47% by 12 January 2024, leading to compulsory acquisition and delisting on 6 March 2024.
Is Whispir profitable?
As of its last public disclosure, no. Whispir reported an EBITDA loss of $2.438 million for H1 FY24 (six months to 31 Dec 2023), a 72.5% improvement over the prior period. No standalone financials have been published since it went private in March 2024.
Could AI replace Whispir's core product?
Whispir's own GenAI features, 'Compose AI' for message drafting and 'Talkbots' for voice, are thin wrappers on frontier models and exposed to commoditization by generic AI tools. Its compliance and OTP verification workflows, like 'Whispir Verify', are more defensible.
Who is Whispir's biggest competitor?
Everbridge dominates enterprise critical-event and mass-notification messaging, with Twilio and Sinch leading broader CPaaS. Whispir's most direct rival, Soprano Design, ended the competition outright by acquiring Whispir and delisting it on 6 March 2024.
Did Whispir's revenue decline before it was acquired?
Yes. FY23 revenue fell 24% year-on-year to $53.7 million from $70.6 million in FY22, and H1 FY24 revenue fell 54.3% year-on-year to $6.278 million, immediately preceding Soprano Design's takeover and Whispir's March 2024 delisting.
