The call

Wiz built its business on staying neutral across every cloud, and now belongs to one of them, with the next year of customer renewals showing whether that neutrality still holds.

Wiz sells software that finds attack paths and security problems across Amazon, Microsoft, Google, and other cloud platforms for large companies. It was hard to copy because it built a unique map of how attacks move through clouds, and it stayed neutral between cloud providers, which customers trusted. Now that Google owns Wiz, companies using Amazon or Microsoft clouds may worry that Wiz will favor Google's cloud or stop working as well for them, which could push them to switch to rivals like Orca Security or Palo Alto. The one thing that could change this: if Wiz keeps working equally well across all clouds and proves it is truly independent from Google, customers might stay and trust it again.

Why
01
AI pressure: AI-driven cloud scanning and triage tools. AI can automate the scanning and triage Wiz sells, so Wiz is building its own Blue, Green, and Red agents to stay ahead of that. Could AI do the core job? Unlikely.
02
Bigger players: Google Cloud, now Wiz's parent company. Google closed its $32B purchase of Wiz in March 2026, putting a former neutral multi-cloud tool inside one of the three clouds it audits. Could a giant copy it? No, they are blocked.
03
What protects it. Its Security Graph holds years of cross-cloud attack-path data and sits deep inside Fortune 100 workflows, both hard to rip out fast.
What would change this call
AWS/Azure-heavy Fortune 100 accounts publicly switch to Orca, CrowdStrike, or Palo Alto within a year. Would show Google ownership is eroding Wiz's multi-cloud neutrality trust.
Wiz product roadmap shows deeper GCP-only features or Chronicle/Google Security Ops absorption. Would show Wiz losing independence and favoring Google Cloud over AWS/Azure.
Post-acquisition layoffs or headcount consolidation beyond the current 47 open roles trend. Would show Wiz being folded into Google rather than run as a distinct unit.
Key numbers
  • Wiz crossed $1B+ ARR (2025-12-31)
  • Google closed $32B all-cash acquisition (2026-03-11)
  • Hit $100M ARR in 18 months, fastest ever at the time (2022-08-10)
Named risks
  • Google ownership undermines Wiz's core multi-cloud neutrality pitch, risking AWS/Azure customer churn. Severity: high
  • Post-acquisition integration slows hiring and could mask headcount consolidation or layoffs. Severity: medium
  • CNAPP market consolidation (Gartner: 80% of enterprises to ≤3 vendors by end of 2026) intensifies competitive pressure. Severity: medium
  • AI-driven commoditization of scanning/detection/triage could erode differentiation if agents become industry-standard. Severity: medium
  • Conflicting revenue figures across sources (aggregator ARR vs revenue claims) create reporting uncertainty. Severity: low

Questions people ask
Is Wiz still independent or has it been acquired?
Wiz is no longer independent. Google completed an all-cash $32 billion acquisition of Wiz on March 11, 2026, folding it into Google Cloud after US antitrust clearance in November 2025 and unconditional EU approval in February 2026, per TechCrunch.
Is Wiz profitable?
Public sources do not disclose Wiz's profitability. Wiz reportedly crossed $1 billion in ARR during 2025 per TechCrunch (2026-03-11), but no net income or profit figures are cited in available reporting; it was still private and now sits inside Alphabet.
Could AI replace Wiz's cloud security product?
Unlikely soon. Wiz's proprietary Security Graph, cross-cloud integrations across AWS, Azure, GCP and OCI, and Fortune 100 workflow lock-in are hard to replicate. Wiz is instead deploying its own AI agents (Blue, Green, Red) as of April 2026 rather than being displaced by AI.
Who is Wiz's biggest competitor?
Orca Security is the closest architectural peer as an agentless CNAPP rival, while Palo Alto Networks (rebranded Cortex Cloud in 2025) and CrowdStrike Falcon Cloud Security also compete directly, per a June 2026 CNAPP market roundup from cipherssecurity.com.
Who owns Wiz now?
Wiz is a wholly owned subsidiary of Alphabet Inc., operating within Google Cloud, since the $32 billion acquisition closed on March 11, 2026. It was previously an independent Israeli-American startup valued at $12 billion in its May 2024 Series E.
Will Wiz keep supporting AWS and Azure customers now that Google owns it?
Google has publicly stated Wiz will continue supporting AWS and Microsoft Azure clients post-acquisition, per CRN reporting around the March 11, 2026 deal close, though multi-cloud customer retention over the following months remains the key thing to watch for neutrality erosion.
