The call

Xometry keeps posting real revenue and margin gains while leaning on certifications and a Siemens tie-up, but Autodesk and PTC still have their own path to buyers if they choose to build it.

Xometry is an online marketplace that connects people who design parts with factories that make them. The company has built something hard to replace: it stores millions of past projects to help match jobs to the right factories, it has safety certifications that big aerospace and medical companies trust, and it has locked in thousands of suppliers and buyers. The big risk is that Siemens just invested in Xometry and plans to bundle it into their design software, which could work great or could fail, and meanwhile Autodesk and other design companies might build their own factory networks to compete. The thing to watch is whether Autodesk fights back with a similar service, and whether Xometry's profit margins stay strong as it grows.

Why
01
AI pressure: AI-driven CAD copilots (Autodesk Fusion AI, PTC Creo AI features). AI copilots inside CAD tools could quote and route parts to shops directly, skipping Xometry's marketplace layer entirely. Could AI do the core job? Unlikely.
02
Bigger players: Autodesk and PTC. Both could ship a native embedded on-demand manufacturing marketplace inside their own CAD software, cutting Xometry out. Could a giant copy it? Probably.
03
What protects it. AS9100D, ITAR and CMMC L2 certifications plus a 4,200-plus supplier network and millions of past part files hold aerospace and defense buyers in place.
What would change this call
Autodesk or PTC launches a native embedded on-demand manufacturing quote-to-fulfillment feature. Would show a CAD incumbent bypassing Xometry's marketplace layer directly.
Xometry marketplace gross margin falls below 34.7% for two consecutive quarters. Would show pricing or competitive pressure eroding marketplace economics.
Siemens Xcelerator integration adoption metrics reported in Q3/Q4 2026 earnings calls. Would show whether the Siemens partnership is converting to real usage or stalling.

  • Autodesk or PTC could ship a native embedded marketplace eroding Xometry's Siemens-driven edge. Severity: high
  • Marketplace gross margin, 34.7% in Q1 2026, could compress two straight quarters as scale increases. Severity: medium
  • Siemens Xcelerator integration is only ~2.5 months old as of mid-2026 and execution pace is unproven. Severity: medium

Questions people ask
Is Xometry profitable in 2026?
Not on a GAAP basis: Xometry posted a net loss attributable to common stockholders of $5.3M in Q1 2026 (ended 2026-03-31), though adjusted EBITDA was positive at $10.5M, a $10.4M YoY improvement, per SEC filing EX-99.1.
Could AI replace Xometry?
Unlikely soon: AI automates Xometry's quoting and pricing, but frontier models can't manufacture parts, hold ITAR/AS9100D/CMMC certifications, or replicate its supplier network. Xometry itself uses AI internally, crediting it for a 290bps marketplace gross margin gain to 34.7% in Q1 2026.
Who is Xometry's biggest competitor?
Protolabs and Fictiv are the most-cited rivals in on-demand manufacturing marketplaces, but as of 2026-07-24 no independent market-share data confirms rankings; comparisons rely on vendor-authored 'alternatives' marketing rather than verified competitive standing.
Is Xometry a safe company to join in 2026?
Growth signals are strong: Q1 2026 revenue rose 36% YoY to $205.1M, and full-year 2026 guidance was raised to 27-28% growth from an earlier 21% estimate as of 2026-05-08, alongside a new Siemens partnership and equity investment.
Who owns Xometry?
Xometry is a public company trading on Nasdaq as XMTR (IPO June 29, 2021). No corporate parent exists, but Siemens purchased roughly $50M of Class A common stock on 2026-05-07 alongside a strategic Xcelerator platform partnership.
