The call

Yearn built the category then watched Morpho, Beefy, and CIAN copy the playbook with more chains and fresher code, leaving TVL cut in half within a year.

Yearn Finance takes cryptocurrency deposits and automatically moves them between lending platforms to chase the highest returns, taking a small fee. It used to be the biggest name in this space, but it is now easier to copy than ever: Morpho, Beefy, and CIAN offer the same service, while Aave and Compound (the big lending platforms it routed money to) can now do the routing themselves and keep all the fees. Two security breaches in six weeks have made users nervous, and Yearn's total deposits have dropped from $500 million to around $215 million to $310 million in just six months. The one thing that could matter is whether Yearn can prove it is more secure, faster, and more profitable for users than rivals like Morpho and Beefy over the next few quarters, but right now the trend is pointing the wrong way.

Why
01
AI pressure: Agentic on-chain yield-routing bots. Automated agents can copy Yearn's routing logic and rebalance across protocols directly, cutting out the middle layer entirely. Could AI do the core job? Yes, likely.
02
Bigger players: Morpho (MetaMorpho vaults), Beefy Finance, CIAN Yield Layer. Morpho's curated vaults and Beefy's multichain reach now match or beat Yearn's TVL, pulling deposits away chain by chain. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. A long-running brand and a 90% revenue-to-stYFI-staker model give loyal holders a reason to stay put.

Questions people ask
Is Yearn Finance profitable in 2026?
Yearn Finance is a DAO, not a company with traditional profit. Since YIP-88 passed October 29, 2025, 90% of protocol revenue routes to stYFI stakers, but analysts call the model's revenue sustainability an unproven 'execution risk' as of May 2026.
Has Yearn Finance been hacked?
Yes. A roughly $9M exploit hit Yearn's yETH pool on November 30, 2025 due to an unchecked arithmetic bug (about $2.4M later recovered), followed by a separate ~$300K legacy TUSD vault exploit around December 17, 2025.
Who is Yearn Finance's biggest competitor?
As of July 2026, Beefy Finance and CIAN Yield Layer outrank Yearn in TVL rankings, with CIAN at roughly $250-280M and Beefy cited between $110M and $420M depending on source, while Yearn sits around $215-310M.
Could AI replace Yearn Finance?
Yearn's core job, scanning yield across protocols and rebalancing capital, is exactly the task agentic on-chain AI bots are being built to automate. As of mid-2026 no evidence shows Yearn itself has deployed AI-driven strategy execution to defend this function.
Is Yearn Finance shrinking?
Yearn's TVL fell from roughly $500M in January 2026 to about $215M by early July 2026 (with one May 2026 measure at $310M for V3 alone), while rivals Beefy and CIAN moved to equal or greater size.
Who owns Yearn Finance?
No one owns Yearn Finance in a corporate sense. It is a stateless, unincorporated DAO with no legal entity or MSB license, governed by YFI token holders; per a January 14, 2026 governance brief, 14 addresses control 64% of voting power.
