The call

Yuga survives on brand loyalty and legal wins while crypto cycles, not new products, decide whether Bored Apes keep their value.

Yuga Labs creates and manages digital collectible brands, most famously the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC), which are images stored on the blockchain that people buy and sell. The company owns real legal rights to these brands and has won trademark cases, which is harder to copy than people think, but the NFT market has collapsed and buyers have mostly disappeared, which cuts into the company's income from royalties (a cut of each sale). Big tech companies like Meta or Epic Games could build competing NFT worlds or collectibles if they wanted to, and artificial intelligence can now generate unlimited new avatar art that looks good, which makes new collections less rare and valuable. The one thing that could turn this around is if Yuga raises fresh investment money to fund new games and experiences (they haven't gotten outside money since 2022), or if their new gaming projects like Otherside prove people actually want to spend time and money there.

Why
01
AI pressure: Generative AI art tools (Midjourney, Stable Diffusion style generators). Generative AI lets anyone mint cheap art collections, undercutting the scarcity that made BAYC's original PFP drop valuable. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: Meta, Epic Games, Amazon, Roblox. Meta, Epic, Amazon and Roblox could out build Otherside's metaverse anytime, none has prioritized it yet. Could a giant copy it? Probably.
03
What protects it. Trademark wins and on chain BAYC provenance can't be copied, and a loyal holder base still pays six figure floor prices.

Questions people ask
Is Yuga Labs profitable in 2026?
No clear profitability signal exists. Yuga Labs' royalty revenue collapsed from $8.7M in Q1 2023 to $2.5M in Q3 2023, a 71% drop, and the company has raised no new disclosed capital since its March 2022 $450M seed round, per artnet.com (2023-10-11).
Has Yuga Labs raised new funding since its $4 billion valuation?
No new priced funding round has been publicly confirmed since Yuga Labs' $450M seed round led by a16z in March 2022, which valued the company at $4 billion, per techcrunch.com (2022-03-22). The 4-plus year silence is treated as a distress signal.
Has Yuga Labs had layoffs?
Yes, at least three rounds: October 2023 (confirmed layoffs among 120-plus US staff), April 2024 (CEO Greg Solano said 'Yuga lost its way'), and December 2, 2025 under then-CEO Daniel Alegre, per decrypt.co and dlnews.com and gam3s.gg.
Who is the CEO of Yuga Labs?
Michael Figge, former Chief Product Officer, became CEO on April 24, 2026, succeeding Greg Solano, who moved to Chairman, per phemex.com (2026-04-25). This is the third CEO change since 2023 following Daniel Alegre and Solano.
Could AI replace what Yuga Labs does?
AI image generators can now trivially reproduce the original BAYC-style PFP art mechanic, eroding scarcity for new collections, but cannot replicate Yuga's on-chain provenance or its trademark win against Ryder Ripps, finalized around April 2026, per analysisgroup.com.
Who owns Yuga Labs?
Yuga Labs is privately held and VC-backed, with no disclosed change of controlling ownership. Its only confirmed institutional raise is the March 2022 $450M seed round led by a16z; co-founder Greg Solano retains influence as Chairman since April 2026, per gate.com.
