The call

Zalos wraps finance-specific workflow on top of a general skill that OpenAI, Anthropic, and Ramp are all racing to own directly.

Zalos makes AI software that can use old finance and accounting systems automatically, doing tasks like approvals and expense tracking without human clicks. Right now this is not easy to copy, but OpenAI and Anthropic are releasing the raw building blocks every month, and Ramp (a payments company) is already selling competing agents to do the same work. The one thing that could keep Zalos alive is if customers get so used to their specific setup that switching to a rival becomes painful, but that has not happened yet.

Why
01
AI pressure: OpenAI Operator and Anthropic computer-use. Frontier labs ship computer-use monthly, the raw skill Zalos wraps for finance; if they add finance indemnity, the wrapper thins fast. Could AI do the core job? Yes, likely.
02
Bigger players: Ramp. Ramp already runs AI agents for AP, expense, and procurement inside its own platform, not yet inside customer ERPs like NetSuite or SAP. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. Audit-trail evidence packs and per-customer trained agents could raise switching costs, but no named customer has confirmed this in public yet.
What would change this call
Ramp ships agents that operate inside customer ERPs (not just Ramp's own platform). Would show Ramp closing the exact gap Zalos depends on.
NetSuite, SAP, or Oracle announce native reconciliation or finance-ops AI agents within 12-18 months. Would show ERP incumbents bundling away Zalos's wedge.
OpenAI or Anthropic publish enterprise indemnity terms for computer-use in financial transactions. Would show frontier labs closing the liability gap Zalos currently exploits.
Key numbers
  • £2.7M seed led by 14 Peaks (2026-03-23)
  • ~2 employees, hiring for engineers (2026-01-26)
  • SOC 2 Type II certification live (2026-07-16)
Named risks
  • Frontier labs (OpenAI, Anthropic) commoditize the core computer-use capability Zalos wraps. Severity: high
  • Ramp or ERP vendors (NetSuite, SAP, Oracle) ship native reconciliation agents, closing Zalos's window. Severity: high
  • Tiny ~2-person team competing against better-funded peers and incumbents. Severity: high
  • No independently verified enterprise customer logos; traction claims are vendor-stated only. Severity: medium
  • Agent operates inside customer ERPs with credentials and handles 2FA, raising security/audit exposure. Severity: medium

Questions people ask
Is Zalos profitable in 2026?
No public profitability data exists. Zalos is a ~2-person seed-stage startup that raised a £2.7M (~$3.6M) seed round led by 14 Peaks in March 2026, and has not disclosed revenue or profitability figures as of mid-2026.
How many employees does Zalos have?
Job/careers trackers put Zalos at roughly 2 employees as of January 2026, per Standout.work, though the company is actively hiring for Founding Product Engineer and Senior AI Engineer roles in London to grow that base.
Could OpenAI or Anthropic replace Zalos?
Possibly. Zalos's core product wraps the same computer-use primitive that OpenAI's Operator and Anthropic's computer-use agents ship and improve monthly, per a May 2026 TheNextWeb report; Zalos's only differentiation is unproven audit-trail and finance-specific accuracy claims.
Who is Zalos's biggest competitor?
Ramp is the most direct threat: it has already shipped AI agents for AP, expense coding, and procurement, claiming to catch '15x more out-of-policy spend' per its own April 2026 blog. YC-backed Mesh also directly competes on bank reconciliation.
How much funding has Zalos raised?
Zalos raised a £2.7M (~$3.6M) seed round led by 14 Peaks, with Cohen Circle and 20VC participating, announced March 23, 2026. CB Insights later listed total raised at approximately $4.1M as of June 2026.
Does Zalos have paying customers?
Zalos states it has 'paying enterprise customers' across major midmarket ERPs, and CEO William Fairbairn claimed in a July 8, 2026 podcast that Zalos went from launch to live deployment with 'major enterprise customers' in five weeks. No customer names have been independently verified.
