The call

Zeekr now runs as a division inside Geely's much bigger machine, with growth coming more from Lynk & Co than from the Zeekr brand itself.

Zeekr makes electric cars aimed at wealthy Chinese buyers, but it loses money on every sale. It competes directly against much larger companies like BYD, Tesla, Nio, and Xpeng, and there is nothing special about its technology that these competitors cannot copy or build themselves, especially since Zeekr shares the same platform and battery supplier as its parent company Geely. The company was delisted in December 2025 after Geely took full control, and now Geely is cutting research budgets and laying off workers to save money by combining all its car brands into one operation. What matters most: whether Zeekr can shrink its losses fast enough and find a real reason to exist inside Geely's lineup, or whether it simply gets swallowed up and folded into other Geely brands like Lynk and Co, which already outsell it two to one.

Why
01
AI pressure: BYD's free God's Eye ADAS suite. BYD bundles advanced driver AI free across trims, undercutting the premium AI features Zeekr uses to justify its price. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: BYD, plus Geely siblings Lynk & Co, Galaxy, and Polestar. BYD outsells Zeekr nearly 8 to 1 and Geely's own Lynk & Co now makes up over 60% of combined group deliveries. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. Folding into Geely gives Zeekr shared SEA platform costs, CATL battery supply, group-wide distribution, and the Waymo robotaxi contract.
What would change this call
Zeekr-brand monthly deliveries through 2026 versus Lynk & Co's share of group volume. Whether Zeekr remains a distinct growth brand or is being eclipsed inside its own group.
Next round of Geely 'One Geely' R&D and headcount consolidation announcements. Whether Zeekr retains a protected engineering org or is merged into shared platforms.
BYD Yangwang/Denza premium-tier delivery figures versus Zeekr's in coming quarters. Whether BYD's premium push is structurally outpacing Zeekr in its core segment.

Questions people ask
Is Zeekr still a publicly traded company?
No. Zeekr's merger with Geely completed December 22, 2025, and it delisted from the NYSE, becoming a wholly owned subsidiary of Geely Automobile Holdings (HKEX: 0175). Shareholders received either $2.687 cash or 1.23 Geely shares per Zeekr share.
Is Zeekr profitable?
Not yet. Zeekr Group's Q3 2025 net loss narrowed 62% year over year to RMB803 million, following a full-year 2024 net loss of RMB6.42 billion on RMB75.91 billion revenue. Losses are shrinking but the company remains unprofitable as of November 2025.
Who owns Zeekr now?
Geely Automobile Holdings (HKEX: 0175) owns 100% of Zeekr as of December 22, 2025, after completing a take-private merger. About 70.8% of former shareholders chose Geely shares (roughly 777 million new shares) and 29.2% chose cash (about $701 million).
Is BYD a bigger threat to Zeekr than Tesla?
Yes, by volume. BYD sold 1.76 million NEVs in 2024 versus Zeekr's 222,123, a roughly tenfold gap, per a February 2025 Electrive report. BYD also runs premium sub-brands like Yangwang and Denza directly competing with Zeekr's price tier.
Could AI replace Zeekr's engineering advantage?
Zeekr's ADAS stack (Qianli Haohan, G-ASD) is increasingly shared across Geely-family brands, making it a commoditized layer rather than a Zeekr-specific moat. Geely's G-ASD system, not Zeekr-exclusive, earned UN R171 certification on March 18, 2026.
Does Zeekr build vehicles for Waymo's robotaxis?
Yes. Zeekr builds the chassis and body for Waymo's next-generation robotaxi, renamed 'Waymo Ojai' in January 2026 after being called 'Zeekr RT.' The vehicle entered paid public service in Phoenix, San Francisco, and Los Angeles starting May 2026.
