The call

Zopper has real infrastructure and insurer reach, but faces thin margins, crowded peers like Riskcovry and Symbo, and an unproven path to the IPO scale it is targeting.

Zopper is a software platform that lets insurance companies and businesses (like retailers) connect and sell policies together through one system. It has built real connections with over 40 insurers and thousands of partners, plus regulators recognize it, which makes it hard for any single insurance company to build the same thing alone. But several other startups like Riskcovry and CoverGenius are building very similar platforms in India right now, so the advantage is not locked in. The biggest question is whether Zopper can actually grow its money (the company claims 35 percent growth over the next two years) while staying profitable with all 900 employees, or whether it is mainly a thin layer between insurers and sellers that depends on going public soon rather than becoming a truly valuable software business.

Why
01
AI pressure: None apparent. Zopper builds AI into its own ZENOVA layer for underwriting and claims, treating it as a tool rather than a rival product. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: Infosys, TCS, or Wipro building a rival insurance distribution stack. Big Indian IT firms have the bank relationships and engineering scale to copy Zopper's rails, but none has shipped a live competing product yet. Could a giant copy it? Probably.
03
What protects it. 40+ insurer integrations, 1,000+ APIs, and IRDAI compliance work that no single insurer or bank can easily rebuild alone.
What would change this call
Zopper's FY26 statutory filings show operating revenue and GWP figures versus its stated Rs 1,000 crore GWP and 35% CAGR guidance. Would show whether growth claims match audited numbers or the business is thinner than guided.
Zopper announces a pre-IPO funding round or updated valuation within the next 12-18 months. Would show investor confidence and whether the IPO timeline (FY29) stays credible.
A large Indian IT firm such as Infosys, TCS, or Wipro launches a live insurance-distribution platform with named insurer or bank partners. Would show a new, well-resourced entrant contesting Zopper's infrastructure niche.
Key numbers
  • FY24 revenue ₹110.4 crore (~$13M), up 30.3% (FY24)
  • 40 insurers, 2,500+ partners, 1,000+ APIs (Nov 2024)
  • Series D: $25M raised, Nov 2024 (2024-11-21)
Named risks
  • FY24 operating revenue (~$13M) is thin relative to reported headcount of 800-1,000 and IPO ambitions. Severity: high
  • Multiple similarly funded peers (Riskcovry, Bimaplan, Symbo, Assurekit) racing for the same insurer and partner integrations. Severity: high
  • Public financial and funding figures diverge sharply across sources, complicating verification of real scale. Severity: medium
  • Business model depends on IRDAI regulatory relationships and Open Insurance policy direction. Severity: medium
  • Large systems integrators (Infosys, TCS, Wipro) could build competing insurance-distribution stacks though none has shipped yet. Severity: medium

Questions people ask
Is Zopper profitable in 2026?
No net income figures are public. Zopper's own FY24 operating revenue was reported at Rs110.4 crore (about $13M), up 30.3% from Rs84.8 crore in FY23, per Inc42 (2026-05-28). No profit or loss figure has been disclosed alongside its FY26 IPO ambitions.
Who owns Zopper?
Zopper is privately held and venture backed, founded in 2011 by Surjendu Kuila, Mayank Gupta and Neeraj Jain. Investors include Creaegis, ICICI Venture, Bessemer Venture Partners, Tiger Global, Blume Ventures, Elevation Capital and Dharana Capital, per its $75M Series C (Sept 2022) and $25M Series D (Nov 2024) rounds.
Who is Zopper's biggest competitor?
Zopper competes directly with Riskcovry, Bimaplan, Symbo Insurance and Assurekit in India's embedded-insurance infrastructure space, and with CoverGenius internationally. All are building parallel insurer and partner integrations, per CB Insights competitor data (2026-04-22).
Could AI replace Zopper?
Unlikely to replace it outright: Zopper's value rests on 40+ live insurer integrations, IRDAI-linked compliance and 2,500+ distribution partners built since 2011, not a model alone. Zopper itself launched an agentic AI layer, ZENOVA, around March 2026 to reduce mis-selling in bank-channel sales.
When will Zopper go public?
Zopper has stated it aims to IPO by FY2028-29, and hired Rahul Singh as CFO in April 2026 to support growth and IPO planning, per a company statement covered by Economic Times BFSI (2026-03-05) and CB Insights (2026-04-22).
How much money has Zopper raised?
Zopper raised $75M in a Series C round led by Creaegis in September 2022 and $25M in a Series D round co-led by Elevation Capital and Dharana Capital in November 2024, plus an earlier $20M raise from Tiger Global and Nirvana Venture Advisors in 2015.
