The call

Allegro still dominates Polish shopping through its own lockers and lending, but Temu is chipping into cheap goods and AI shopping agents are an open question.

Allegro is Poland's largest online shopping platform, handling about 39 out of every 100 dollars spent online in the country. It is hard to replace because it owns 36,000 pickup lockers, runs its own payment system, and sellers have built their whole business around it, which is why Amazon has been stuck below 4 percent market share since 2021 despite trying hard. The real threat is Temu, a Chinese competitor that has been grabbing shoppers fast in Poland's budget segment and already matches Amazon in size globally; at the same time, AI shopping assistants from ChatGPT and Google (launched in mid-2026) are just starting to let people buy things without visiting Allegro's website, so the next 12 months will show whether shoppers stick with Allegro or drift away to cheaper rivals and automated checkout.

Why
01
AI pressure: ChatGPT and Google AI shopping agents. New ChatGPT and Google tie-ups could route shoppers around allegro.pl, and direct visits already fell 15% in a quarter. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: Temu (PDD Holdings). Temu's share of Poland's core marketplace segment climbed from 25% to 37% while Allegro's crept from 10% to 13%. Could a giant copy it? No, they are blocked.
03
What protects it. Allegro owns 36,000+ pickup lockers, handles 41% of Polish parcels, and locks sellers in with its own Allegro Pay lending arm.
What would change this call
Temu's OECD-measured core marketplace share in Poland next 2-3 quarterly readings. Continued climb shows Temu breaking out of low-price niche into Allegro's core business.
Allegro's direct web traffic and ad revenue trend in next 2-4 quarterly reports. Accelerating decline after AI partnerships would show ChatGPT/Google routing shoppers away from allegro.pl.
Naming of a successor CFO after Jon Eastick's March 2026 departure. A prolonged vacancy would signal governance and execution uncertainty.
Key numbers
  • Allegro holds 38.8% of Polish e-commerce vs Amazon's 3.9% (2024-12-31)
  • FY2025 GMV near PLN 70B, up 9% year over year (2025-12-31)
  • Direct web traffic down 15% quarter over quarter (2026-07)
Named risks
  • AI agent shopping (ChatGPT, Google) could disintermediate Allegro's ad and direct-traffic revenue. Severity: high
  • Temu's fast-rising core-marketplace share (20.5% in 2025 per OECD) could erode Allegro's local-seller base. Severity: high
  • CFO departure announced March 2026 with no named successor creates governance uncertainty. Severity: medium
  • International segment (Czech, Slovak, Hungarian) lost PLN 55M in FY2025, break-even not expected until 2029. Severity: medium

Questions people ask
Is Allegro profitable in 2026?
Yes. Allegro's FY2025 adjusted EBITDA rose over 15% YoY to about PLN 3.5 billion on group GMV near PLN 70 billion (+9% YoY), and Q1 2026 adjusted EBITDA hit PLN 931.8 million, beating analyst estimates, per its March and May 2026 earnings reports.
Is Amazon beating Allegro in Poland?
No. Despite entering Poland in 2021 with full global resources, Amazon.pl held just 3.9% of Poland's retail e-commerce market as of end-2024, versus Allegro's 38.8%, according to Euromonitor data cited in a May 2025 report.
Is Temu a real threat to Allegro?
Yes, in overlapping segments. OECD data (May 2026) shows Temu's 'core marketplace' share in Poland climbing from 25% in 2023 to 20.5% in 2025, while Allegro's comparable share grew slower, from 10.2% to 13.1%, over the same period.
Could AI assistants replace Allegro as a shopping destination?
It's an open risk. Allegro launched a ChatGPT App Store app on May 12, 2026 and an OpenAI partnership on May 11, 2026, positioning itself inside AI shopping flows, but whether this feeds or replaces its direct-traffic and ad revenue (2.24% of GMV in Q4 2025) is unresolved as of mid-2026.
Who owns Allegro?
Allegro.eu S.A. is publicly listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange since its October 2020 IPO. As of mid-2026, private equity sponsors Permira (~12.9%) and a Cinven-linked vehicle (~8.5%) remain major holders, with institutions (~45%) and free float (~33%) making up the rest.
Is it safe to take a job at Allegro right now?
Mostly stable but with flux. Allegro.eu reported 5,754 employees as of December 31, 2025, down 3.78% YoY, and its CFO of eight years, Jon Eastick, announced departure in March 2026 with no successor named at the time.
