The call

Berachain scrapped the consensus model it was built on, watched TVL and fees evaporate, and has yet to show a single revenue-generating partner.

Berachain is a blockchain designed to process transactions faster and cheaper than Bitcoin or Ethereum. Its original draw was a reward system that paid people in a special token called BGT to add money to the network, but the company shut that down in July 2026, causing almost all the money to leave. Now it makes only about $41 per day in fees, competes directly against much bigger, more established blockchains like Solana and Arbitrum that already have more users, and needs to prove it can sign real business partnerships by early 2027 to show it has a reason to exist beyond token speculation.

Why
01
AI pressure: None apparent. AI agents and trading bots run on many chains; none specifically targets or depends on Berachain's infrastructure. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: Solana, BNB Chain, Avalanche, Base, Arbitrum. These chains already absorbed the scaling demand and liquidity Berachain needed once its token incentives dried up. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. Remaining treasury funds and a loyal community give the team room to try BBB before capital runs out.
What would change this call
Whether Berachain names a BBB partner/acquisition with auditable $10M+ annual revenue by Q1 2027. Shows whether the revenue pivot is real or the platform keeps declining.
Daily chain fees moving from ~$41/day into six-figure range in coming months. Indicates whether genuine usage is returning or the network remains inactive.
Outcome of scheduled BERA token unlocks (45-84% still uncirculated) and price reaction. Shows whether dilution further weakens token value and investor confidence.

Questions people ask
Is Berachain still profitable or generating meaningful revenue in 2026?
No. Chain fees fell to about $41 per day and app revenue to roughly $3,359 per 24 hours as of July 15, 2026, per MEXC, with corporate entity revenue reported under $5M annually as of April 2025, well below its earlier $3.2B TVL scale.
Did Berachain's TVL really collapse in 2026?
Yes. TVL peaked around $3.2 to $3.35 billion in 2025 and had fallen roughly 98% to about $17 to $56 million by mid-July 2026, according to trackers cited by AInvest on July 21, 2026 and MEXC on July 15, 2026.
What happened to Berachain's Proof of Liquidity consensus and BGT token?
Berachain's own July 7-8, 2026 'PoL Next' hard fork eliminated the BGT token entirely, collapsing its tri-token model into a single WBERA/sWBERA system, per KuCoin's July 8, 2026 report, effectively dismantling the mechanism that once justified its $1.5B valuation.
Has Berachain had layoffs?
Yes. In January 2026 the Berachain Foundation confirmed layoffs of most of its retail marketing team, and chief developer 'Alberto' departed to co-found a separate Web2 company, according to KuCoin's January 15, 2026 report.
Who are Berachain's biggest competitors?
Solana, BNB Chain, Avalanche, and newer entrants like Initia and Monad compete directly for liquidity and developers, while Ethereum L2s Arbitrum and Base have absorbed scaling demand Berachain sought, per AInvest's July 19, 2026 report.
What is the 'Bera Builds Businesses' pivot and has it worked?
Announced January 17, 2026, BBB aimed to incubate or partner with 3-5 apps targeting $10M+ annual revenue each. As of July 19, 2026, AInvest reported zero named acquisitions or partnerships had been confirmed, six months after launch.
