The call

Blur pioneered zero-fee NFT trading, OpenSea copied it and took back the market, and Blur now survives mostly on Blend's lending volume as the NFT category itself shrinks.

Blur lets people buy and sell digital collectibles with zero fees and tools for serious traders, competing directly against OpenSea. But Blur's main edge, zero fees, turned out to be easy to copy: when OpenSea dropped its own fees from 2.5% to 0.5% in February 2025, it took back most of the market in just seven days, showing the fee difference alone was not enough to lock in customers. Blur has no other way to make money right now and faces pressure from a token delisting warning, so the real question is whether OpenSea's delayed token launch in mid-2026 will shake up the market again and either solidify Blur's smaller position or squeeze it further.

Why
01
AI pressure: None apparent. AI agents could eventually trade NFTs on either platform, but that threat hits OpenSea and Blur equally, not Blur specifically. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: OpenSea. OpenSea's OS2 relaunch cut fees to 0.5% and flipped share from 25% to 71% in one week in Feb 2025, and it still leads NFT trading. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. Blend, its NFT lending protocol, still processes the most NFT-collateral loans and could survive even if marketplace share keeps falling.
What would change this call
OpenSea's SEA token launches (targeted mid-2026). Past SEA announcements caused sharp share swings away from Blur; a launch tests Blur's #2 position again.
Binance removes or keeps its Monitoring Tag on BLUR. Removal reduces delisting risk; continuation or delisting signals exchange-level distrust in the token.
A fee-switch proposal (BIP-1 or similar) passes Blur governance. Would give BLUR token real revenue accrual, changing Blur from a zero-fee model to a monetized one.

Questions people ask
Is Blur profitable in 2026?
No. Blur charges 0% marketplace fees and has no passed fee-switch, so it generates no direct marketplace revenue as of 2026. Its business model relies on token incentives and the Blend lending protocol rather than transaction fees, per blockchainreporter.net, May 2026.
Who is Blur's biggest competitor?
OpenSea. After relaunching as OS2 with 0.5% fees and 19+ chains in February 2025, OpenSea's share jumped from roughly 25.5% to 71.5% in one week, per theblock.co, dated 2025-02-20, reclaiming dominance over Blur's zero-fee model.
Is Blur token (BLUR) at risk of delisting?
Yes, elevated risk. Binance added BLUR to its Monitoring Tag on June 18, 2026 alongside ACT, PIVX, and QKC, requiring recurring risk quizzes. Binance notes previously tagged tokens like FUN, OXT, BIFI, and MDT were later delisted, per binance.com, 2026-06-18.
What market share does Blur have in NFT trading as of 2026?
Blur holds roughly 20 to 25 percent of Ethereum NFT trading volume as of mid-2026, positioning it as the number two marketplace behind OpenSea's approximately 71.5 to 73 percent share, per ainvest.com, 2026-07-18.
Could AI replace Blur's trading tools?
Partially. Blur's core sweeping, batch trading, and analytics features are algorithmic and could be commoditized by AI-powered trading bots, though Blur retains liquidity and network-effect advantages via its Blend lending protocol that are harder for bots to replicate directly.
How much has Blur's trading volume declined since its peak?
Blur's daily trading volume peaked near $100 million in early 2023 and declined roughly 97 percent to about $3 million by 2026, per an estimate cited in blockchainreporter.net, dated 2026-05-27.
