The call

Casepoint's classified-government wall keeps Relativity out for now, while leadership churn and FOIA skirmishes test whether that wall holds everywhere else.

Casepoint makes software that law firms and government agencies use to search through millions of documents quickly, especially for cases involving national security or classified information. Right now, the company has a real advantage because it has special government security certifications (FedRAMP High and military-level clearances) that its biggest rival, Relativity, does not have yet, which locks Casepoint into major government contracts. The big risk is that Relativity is catching up in other parts of the business like Freedom of Information Act requests, the company has had three different leaders in less than two years which shows instability, and artificial intelligence tools are making the document-sorting features less unique and cheaper across the whole industry. The one thing that could change everything: if Relativity gets those same military security certifications in the next two years, Casepoint loses its main protection and becomes just another company with an early start.

Why
01
AI pressure: Generative LLMs for document review and FOIA triage. AI drafts and classifies documents fast, but ABA rule 512 requires attorney sign-off, so Casepoint's audit-trail wrapper stays needed. Could AI do the core job? Unlikely.
02
Bigger players: Relativity. Relativity holds ~24% market share and just launched a dedicated FOIA product, pushing directly into Casepoint's federal niche. Could a giant copy it? No, they are blocked.
03
What protects it. FedRAMP High and DoD IL5/IL6 accreditations that Relativity has not matched, locking in classified government work.
What would change this call
Relativity or Everlaw announces FedRAMP High plus DoD IL5/IL6 accreditation. Would close Casepoint's core classified-government moat advantage.
Casepoint names a fourth CEO within 12 months of Colangelo's June 2026 appointment. Would signal deeper leadership instability under Thoma Bravo ownership.
DOW BPA task orders total under $50 million by mid-2027. Would show the $98.8M contract is underperforming its ceiling value.

Questions people ask
Is Casepoint profitable in 2026?
Casepoint is privately held and does not disclose audited financials. It took a majority investment from Thoma Bravo in January 2025 and won an exclusive $98.8 million Department of War Blanket Purchase Agreement in July 2026, signaling strong contract momentum rather than confirmed profitability.
Who owns Casepoint?
Casepoint is majority owned by private equity firm Thoma Bravo, which invested when Casepoint merged with government workflow software firm OPEXUS in January 2025. Comvest Credit Partners and HarbourVest Partners provided debt financing for the deal, per a February 2025 announcement.
Is it safe to take a job at Casepoint right now?
Casepoint has had three CEOs in under 18 months (Bhungalia, then Langsam, then Paul Colangelo as of June 2026), reflecting active post-merger reorganization under Thoma Bravo. It also just won a $98.8 million federal contract in July 2026, suggesting growth alongside leadership instability.
Could AI replace Casepoint's eDiscovery platform?
Unlikely soon: ABA Formal Opinion 512 (July 2024) requires attorney validation and audit trails for AI use in discovery, meaning raw LLM tools cannot alone satisfy legal defensibility requirements. Casepoint itself added generative AI search, summarization, and FOIA assistants in March and May 2026 rather than being displaced.
Who is Casepoint's biggest competitor?
Relativity is Casepoint's largest rival, holding roughly 24% of the eDiscovery market as of March 2026 and having launched a dedicated FOIA product in 2026 that directly challenges Casepoint's government niche, per LawNext reporting from June 2026.
Has Casepoint had layoffs recently?
No layoffs are reported in available coverage. Instead, Casepoint has been expanding through acquisitions, including the July 2025 purchase of mLINQS, and integrating with OPEXUS following the January 2025 Thoma Bravo investment, indicating a growth rather than contraction phase.
