The call

Everclear shut down its original bridge, watched its token collapse, and now competes for scraps in a market where three larger rivals and Circle already control the volume.

Everclear (formerly Connext) helps move money and assets between different blockchains by finding the best routes and prices, like a travel planner for crypto. It is extremely hard to compete because three companies, LayerZero, Wormhole, and Axelar, already handle over 90 percent of all the traffic, and big stablecoin companies like Circle are now building this feature themselves instead of paying a middleman. The one thing that could change everything is if Everclear gets bought by a larger company, stops operating, or if a major security hack hits one of its competitors and shifts users elsewhere, but right now the token price has crashed 99.9 percent and the original product was shut down in mid-2025.

Why
01
AI pressure: AI-driven solver bots and MEV automation. Automated solvers now do the routing and bidding work Everclear built its 'clearing layer' around, cutting into any edge it had. Could AI do the core job? Yes, likely.
02
Bigger players: LayerZero, Wormhole, Chainlink CCIP, and Circle (which acquired Axelar's dev team). These rivals move $44 billion-plus in daily volume combined while Circle now builds bridging in house, squeezing out neutral middleware like Everclear. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. None apparent: no funding since June 2024, no growing volume, and the legacy Connext product already shut down.
What would change this call
CLEAR token market cap stays below exchange listing minimums or gets delisted. Would show investor and exchange confidence has collapsed to near-zero.
Everclear announces a DAO wind-down, acquisition, or acqui-hire by a larger protocol. Would confirm the project could not survive as an independent business.
No new funding round or named institutional lead investor is announced within the year. Would show the company cannot attract fresh capital to fund operations.
Key numbers
  • CLEAR market cap $45K to $230K (mid-2026)
  • Token down ~99.9% from $0.08337 peak (Jan 2025)
  • No funding round since $5M Pantera raise (June 2024)
Named risks
  • CLEAR token market cap near delisting-risk levels ($45K to $230K mid-2026). Severity: high
  • Sector-wide bridge hacks total $2.8B+, and bridges remain uninsured. Severity: high
  • Vertical integration by stablecoin issuers eliminates neutral-middleware positioning. Severity: high
  • Core routing/solver functions exposed to commoditization by AI-driven bots. Severity: medium
  • Original product shut down June 2025, forcing full migration to unproven Everclear model. Severity: medium

Questions people ask
Is Connext (Everclear) profitable in 2026?
No revenue figures are disclosed; Connext operates as a DAO-governed protocol funded by past VC rounds, not a profit-reporting company. Its CLEAR token market cap had fallen to roughly $45,000 to $230,000 by mid-2026, per coingecko.com, suggesting minimal current economic activity.
Has Connext or Everclear had layoffs?
No layoff announcements were found in available sources. However, the original Connext bridge product was formally shut down on June 13, 2025, with all activity consolidated onto the rebranded Everclear protocol, per lifi.substack.com.
Could AI replace what Connext/Everclear does?
Much of Everclear's core value, solver bidding, routing, and liquidity netting optimization, is algorithmic and highly exposed to commoditization by AI-driven solver bots and MEV automation already common in DeFi, since none of it relies on proprietary data or regulatory protection.
Who is Connext's biggest competitor?
LayerZero is the dominant rival, having bridged over $44 billion as of January 26, 2026 per blockeden.xyz, versus Everclear's collapsed CLEAR token market cap of $45,000 to $230,000 in mid-2026. Wormhole and Axelar/Chainlink CCIP also dwarf Everclear's scale.
Who owns Connext / Everclear?
There is no single corporate owner; it is a VC-backed, DAO-governed protocol. Backers include Pantera Capital, which led a $5 million OTC token sale in June 2024 alongside the rebrand from Connext to Everclear, per theblock.co.
What happened to Connext's NEXT token?
In December 2024, the Everclear DAO approved a governance and tokenomics overhaul replacing the NEXT token with a new CLEAR token, adding a vote-bonding mechanism, per coindesk.com. CLEAR later fell roughly 99.9% from its January 2025 peak.
