The call

A distant third-place player with sticky customer lists but no predictive AI yet, squeezed between Intuit's scale and Klaviyo's faster product moves.

Constant Contact helps small businesses send marketing emails and manage customer information. It is hard to replace because it has built up reliable delivery systems over decades and stores hundreds of thousands of customer contact lists that would be tedious to move elsewhere. However, artificial intelligence can now write marketing copy for free (removing one reason to pay), and a rival called Klaviyo has added smarter prediction features that Constant Contact does not yet offer. The biggest wild card is that the company is owned by private investors who are likely looking to sell it within the next few years, which means the company's future depends entirely on whether a buyer improves the product or just squeezes profits until customers leave.

Why
01
AI pressure: Klaviyo (predictive AI, ChatGPT and generative copy tools). Klaviyo already ships predictive churn and LTV models; generative AI tools write the marketing copy Constant Contact used to sell as a feature. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: Mailchimp (Intuit-owned, ~42-49% share). Mailchimp dominates SMB email with roughly ten times Constant Contact's market share and Intuit's bundling power. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. 450,000 to 600,000 customer lists locked into its deliverability infrastructure and CRM integrations, which are costly to migrate off.
What would change this call
Constant Contact ships predictive AI (churn/LTV modeling) rather than generative-only AI, within 6-12 months. Would show it is closing the capability gap with Klaviyo instead of falling further behind.
Resolution of conflicting 2026 headcount data: Revelio Labs (+6.4%) versus Crustdata (-4.9%). Would clarify whether the company is growing headcount or quietly cutting staff.
Unified Campaign Builder launch cross-selling SharpSpring, Moosend, Txtify, and Vision6 within the next two release cycles. Would show the acquisition rollup is working versus stalling as disconnected products.

Questions people ask
Is Constant Contact profitable in 2026?
No audited profit figures are public. Clearlake, its PE owner, says topline growth rose from about 2% at the 2021 carve-out to about 7% as of October 2025. A third-party estimate pegs 2025 revenue near $124.3 million, but this conflicts with the company's historical $331.7 million 2014 figure, so treat with caution.
Who owns Constant Contact?
Constant Contact is owned by Clearlake Capital Group, which re-established it as a standalone company in February 2021 with a $400 million investment alongside Siris Capital. In October 2025, Clearlake closed a new undisclosed-terms strategic investment via Clearlake Icon Partners VI, with Lexington Partners co-investing.
Is Constant Contact losing to Klaviyo?
Constant Contact ranks #3 in email marketing with roughly 4.6 to 14.5 percent share as of April 2026, behind Mailchimp and Klaviyo. Klaviyo already ships predictive AI (churn, lifetime value modeling) that Constant Contact lacks, and holds a higher user rating of 4.6 versus 4.1 as of 2026.
Could AI replace Constant Contact?
Generative AI threatens Constant Contact's content-creation value, since free tools like ChatGPT can write email copy. The company responded by launching an app inside ChatGPT in June 2026 for building and optimizing campaigns, claiming AI users send emails 23% faster, but it still lacks Klaviyo's predictive AI features.
Is Constant Contact laying off employees in 2026?
Signals conflict. Revelio Labs estimates about 1,643 employees as of December 2025, up 6.4% over two years, while Crustdata's tracker shows headcount falling from about 1,231 in October 2024 to 1,153 by June 2026, a 4.9% year-over-year decline. No confirmed mass layoffs have been reported through mid-2026.
What is Constant Contact's biggest competitor?
Mailchimp is the dominant incumbent with roughly 42 to 49 percent market share in email marketing as of April 2026, while Klaviyo, at 15 to 19 percent share, is the faster-moving threat due to its predictive AI features and higher user ratings (4.6 vs Constant Contact's 4.1).
